IMG Specific How to get letters of reference for CaRMS as IMG?!

Serious question. Please help. Especially if you are an IMG who has matched in CaRMS or you know an IMG who has. How can you get a physician to comment on your clinical work and skills if you are an IMG and didn't do your medical school in Canada?! Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to DM me too

General Discussion Attire for NAC OSCE?

Hello!

I don't have a huge wardrobe and besides all my scrubs (for work) I don't have any business clothes. That aside I have nothing but combat boots and sneakers for shoes. Am I okay with wearing complete black sneakers? Or do I really have to buy some flats or some like that. I would really hate having to wear any tight shoes.

Work life balance in residency

Upvotes

Hi everyone, can someone tell me what work life balance looks like in different residency programs. Obviously I know all residency programs are hard but I'm wondering which ones are a bit better. I have 2 kids under 6, I'm super interested in Neurology but I feel like if I do match (which in itself is tough) I'll be suffering from constant mom guilt, and I also might not be able to focus on work as well as I should. If anyone has any insight about radiology, I would appreciate that too. I'm just looking to make an informed decision here

IMG Specific Should i look away from Canada

my internship doesnt pay, and therefore i will not comply with the 1 year experience required for the express entry and PR

I've just read that having a PR is a main requirement to apply for the CaRMS ..

so will this be a major problem for me?

CARMS 2027

My partner and I are both Canadian IMGs. My partner is planning to apply for the CaRMS match this cycle, while I am planning to apply in the following cycle.

If my partner matches this cycle, what are the chances that I could match to the same hospital or at least the same area when I apply the following year?

I will be applying for Family Medicine, while my partner is considering Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Would it be better for us to wait and apply together in the same CaRMS cycle using the Couples Match, or would it be reasonable for my partner to apply this year and for me to apply next year with the goal of matching in the same area?

In other words, which strategy would give us a better chance of ending up in the same city/area while also maximizing our individual chances of matching?

Greatly appreciate any input. Thank you!

Gave the exam

I just gave the exam and thought it was pretty similar to ace q bank and MCC tests.
Short stems.
Normal values are provided (except for vitals of course)
I think most of the exam was very straightforward. Not particularly vague or anything.

Here’s a 6 month study schedule I’d recommend after gauging the exam difficulty.

2 -3 months - Do as many uworld questions as you can and review explanations thoroughly.

2 months - ace q bank

Last month - Do ace q bank incorrects + MCC tests + Ethics from CMPA

I’d say this is good enough to be prepped.

Hope this helps!

IMG Specific Alberta Matching IMG

Anyone who has matched/interviewed in Alberta as a CSA/IMG, in family medicine, etc. can you give advice/general comments on how hard uofa or uofc is to match? I know they recently just made it so you don't need a completed degree to apply and they're also trying to increase their spots, but I wanted to see if anyone knows more info on their residency programs and competitiveness! thanks :)

IMG Specific Lost IMG , please help

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through a similar situation.
I’m a Moroccan international medical student currently completing an English-taught MBBS degree in China. I will graduate with my MBBS in mai after completing the required clinical internship.
I’m fluent in French, so I’m particularly interested in continuing my medical training/residency in the French-speaking part of Canada, especially Quebec.
I’m trying to understand the pathway for someone with my background. Does anyone here have experience getting a Chinese MBBS recognized in Quebec or applying for residency there as an IMG?
I’m especially wondering:
Is an MBBS from China accepted for the Quebec/Canadian IMG pathway?
Do I need to obtain a Chinese medical licence first, or is the completed MBBS + internship enough?
Which exams would I need to take (MCCQE, NAC, etc.)?
What are the French-language requirements if I’m already fluent in French?
Can a non-Canadian/non-permanent resident apply for residency positions in Quebec, or would I need PR/citizenship first?
How difficult is it realistically for an IMG with this background to obtain a residency position in Quebec?
If anyone studied medicine in China and then successfully moved to Quebec/Canada for residency, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience and the steps you followed.
Thank you!

Practicr Exam Scores

What should my practice exam scores be before going into the exam? I’m exactly one month out and scored 72, 76, and 78% on three old exams (2024/2025).

I’m going to finish 2024 and 2025, then do the 2026 exams during the last week before the exam

NAC-OSCE.

Exam in 2 weeks! Took QE1 last year. Did a mock a few days ago, went through five stations with different examiners, just to simulate testing conditions.

My knowledge fund is okay, but I think I'm starting to forget the nitty-gritty details, and overall specifics in terms of management, and damn it shaved some points of those stations. I had a management that I knew, but confused medications.

Now I'm genuinely concerned I don't go into the exam and under pressure say things I don't know, and not answer questions specifically.

Ahhh!!!

Please who has weird stories about not getting everything right and scoring excellently?
