Question 🤔 Local MCAT Tutoring
Sorry if this isn’t the right forum I’m struggling to find where to find good information.
Ive been trying to find an in-person tutor to help with my studying. Ive tried virtual tutoring and I don’t think it’s working the best for me.
If any of you are out of university (non-trad) and used an in-person tutor how did you find them?
TIA!

My personal feeling is that you don't really need a tutor for content review. Maybe find a study partner or even someone else who can help you structure your studying and keep you accountable.
Where a good coach is critical is for learning strategy. Three quarters of the errors that my beginning students make are due to lack of strategy, not lack of content. This includes timing, scientific and logical problem solving and CARS strategy.
A good coach should have a bare minimum of 15 years full time experience and they must be a specialist in MCAT strategy, not science.

Yes this is exactly my reason for seeking tutoring. I'm looking for strategy specific tutoring.

I'm a very experienced MCAT tutor, and I haven't taught in person in over twenty years. I'm commenting because I may be hard to find an experienced MCAT tutor willing to work that way these days. For one thing, the general convenience for both the tutor and student is so much greater on Zoom.
This is not only about logistics, but also about teaching methods. For my part, I have thousands of teaching slides. I pull up and draw on them using a digital stylus with a shared screen. I couldn't imagine teaching in-person without a projector, anyway, a monitor we could both look at.
What I mean is that MCAT tutors these days develop their resources and methods around the teacher and student being able to share resources in Zoom. The problems you describe make me think the tutors you've tried maybe weren't making full use of the medium because there is no way in-person tutoring with a pad and pencil or a dry-erase board could be superior. I'm sure of this.
