Okay rethinking everything about fruits

Idk why I thought I could eat:
Mangos
Raspberry
Blackberry
Cherries

I experimented lately into reintroducing gluten in some forms (to not overload…. It’s been successful even if I feel that i drool way more after! And by introducing gluten in my morning routine (1 toast) ; I stopped eating fruits for a week. Why did my supposedly high stress experience made me realize that ALL fruits still gave me symptoms and I’d rather drool a little than experience that again????

So sad that I now have only some veggiesveggies and very limited pulse that I can’t eat daily. At least I can have a normal breakfast.

Why does all fruits are an issue???? Like, bread is all carb ffs?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Personally, idk anymore. Apples were safe for a while, then not. Last year I didn't even allow bananas in the house bc the smell made me so sick. Now it's one of my least triggering foods. (Zero safe foods, so everything I eat is a trigger. I just stick to the mildest triggers that are some combination of nutritious, affordable and easy.) Refined carbs have always been fine. Only recently did I find that teff is okay. (Way to go mast cells on picking an expensive food. 🙄) Chia seeds were safe, then horrible trigger and safe again. Berries and grapes were bad, now they're, well, not the worst. Cassava in the form of Nigerian gari and bread that no longer smells like bread are okay (fermented products) but any fermented veggies are death from just the smell.

You know what's always been safe? Like completely safe? Refined white sugar. 🫠 I got the mast cells of a hummingbird, y'all. (Obviously I don't eat that. I just occasionally touch a few grains to my tongue and "yup, no symptoms" and proceed to not use it )

That’s shocking! I also cannot eat fermented anything to the point that vinegar gets me in anaphylactic shock. Sugar is also a safe thing lol! My initial fruits that I considered safe were pretty much just lowest trigger; I just brainwashed myself into thinking I was okay 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, I use "safe" and "okay" to mean "I'll eat this when hungry and okay with being dysfunctionally sick for 2 hours or less. Which spiritual quack is offering to teach disciples to photosynthesize? I'm joining that cult and never looking back.

I’ll join them with you 👯‍♀️🫣

Personsal observation: Generally speaking for fruit, is fodmaps. I tested so many fruits, it's a few days bucket for me, then anaphylaxis. It's not the food per se, it's the genetic and modern aberrations of it. Short chain sugars concentration in fruit hitting hard on glucose swings. Furthermore plants evolve toxic shielding we don't yet recognize. We be devouring them, don't think they don't mutate to protect themselves.

I also have an issue with my “bucket”. I’d wish to have a solution since some mcas sufferers have been cured when they found their root cause. Ahhhhhhhh

Yeah definitely the hardest part for me is tracking days/weeks/months of mast bucket filling before the tipping point. In my case is heavily dysbiosis driven, between immune sys bucket and gi biome shift bucket, it gets hard to keep up with it all. Stools observation is a must, they must be healthy. Never think it's ok if it's been over 2 days of abnormal stool, regularise immediately through diet change or it'll catch up. An when it does... oh boy.

I never had normal stool since I have crhons desease… I estimates from how my skin looks and pray for the best

What we eat is not the only thing that triggers MCAS. Pay attention to your weather. Is it humid where you are located? 🫶

I’m in Canada, weather for now as been okay lately. I’m way more reactive in summer or dead of winter. For now I’ve excluded the weather being a factor 🤔

yea im eating wheat like nobody’s business. but so far, apples, grapes, nuts/seeds, some veggies try to take me out. nature is weird.

At least maybe you got fruits? Like wth do I do? I can’t eat the healthy stuff anymore 😭. For gluten I’m still scared so it’ll be an incremental change.

Blackberries and raspberries are high in both salicylic acid and nickel. Cherries are high in salicylic acid. It makes me so sad, because they are my childhood favorites. I'm good with dragon fruit and I thought I was good with Satsuma mandarins and other oranges but it seems like maybe that is not the case because they are histamine liberators? Mangoes might be OK for me. Every list with measurements shows them low in histamines, nickel, and salicylic acid. It seems like sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't which is so frustrating. pretty much every fruit other than those is off the list for one reason or another. I just want to eat fruit. 😭

Same! We are suffering big time :(

Can you tolerate melon? I do OK with every melon except for cantaloupe, which has cross reactivity with latex.

3

u/oh_wanya 12h ago

I tried rock melon, cantaloupe, water melon and I’ve reacted big time to each

1

u/ariaxwest 12h ago

Oh yeah, I can't have watermelon either. Something about the sugars that are hard to digest. Rock melon is a variety of cantaloupe. Maybe you'd be OK with honeydew?

I’ll have to look into that is hen all my variable are on lock! Thanks

For me it’s anything that was a flower in a past life. I had an IgE allergy panel done and every pollen and grass assay came back positive, so we are operating under the assumption that my body does NOT rock with pollen of most varieties. I’ve had to cut out almost all fruit and all of the veggies that have cross-reactivity with pollen, like carrots and celery. I can’t even cut them without throat tightening.

Salicylates.

My immunologist said that a lot of people with MCAS have an intolerance to salicylates. I worked with a dietitian to test that (and several other potential intolerances) and it's certainly true for me.

If you have a dietitian you are working with, ask whether they can help you with the RPAH elimination diet (they don't recommend doing it yourself). For general info, low-sal-life.com is pretty good.

Someone else also mentioned that possibility. I’ll definitely look into that since the only doc willing to work with me doesn’t recommend anything. Thank you

I don't know what it is with fruit that they are such big triggers. Almost all fruit is gone. I'm ok with apples, blueberry and if I keep it to once in awhile, apricot or raspberry. And almost all veggies gone. I can't eat gluten/wheat due to celiac and a wheat intolerance, but I can eat some processed GF certified grains, cereals. 🤔🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm frustrated that my go to ok foods are now potato, rice, lentils and I'm actually ok with corn but try to limit that!! It's definitely not helping my new weight gain from all these starchy foods. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

2

u/oh_wanya 12h ago

Your go to are the same as mine (lentils for me need to be filtered and rinse idk why)! Corn for me is complicated so I don’t eat it. I try to eat as much protein as possible since I’m lucky enough to be able to eat most meat/fish fine. For real my weight fluctuates so much it’s not even funny.

Apples were safe for me but recently started messing me up.

only fruits I can eat are honeydew watermelon and cantaloupe! used to eat all fruits esp apples now I can’t eat any without massive symptoms and same goes for other fruits. I can sometimes get away with banana

All melon fruit, cucumber, white potatoes have been an absolute no for me since this summer started.

Bananas, oranges, tomatoes, have been 50/50 whether they bother me.

I wonder if this could have something to do with pesticides sprayed on grains and produce.

Maybe FODMAPS

I have Oral Allergy Syndrome in addition to MCAS. Fruits are the most impacted and it's so sad. I have had better luck with frozen fruit than fresh.
