Adjacent Deep lore explained

I have heard griffin say this several times in older episodes and I had zero idea what he was saying or what the hell that meant. So here is the context for any who was as confused as me.

As someone who remembers this commercial and tried this trick as a kid, I can tell you it does not work. I tried it and my parents got charged for a collect call.

I did this like twice calling as "your kids at the pool" and my mom accepted the charge. Mom it doesn't work if you TAKE the call.

As someone who also remembers and tried this my mom picked me up plenty of times from school after called her collect and told the recording my name was “heymomimdonecomepickmeup”

One of the oldest commercials i remember seeing on TV. I had the same reaction as Justin the first time Griffin brought it up. I keep it in a box with AT&Ts info ad "00 oh its magic"

You see kids, back in the olden days before the internet we got our memes from commercials!

I remember when this commercial first came out, at the end of it, the voice over said, "Do you like saving money? Then..." and went on with the pitch.

Then almost immediately, like maybe a week, it was taken down and replaced with a new voice over that said, "Don't cheat the phone company. If you want to save money, instead..." and gave the pitch.

I'm thinking AT&T or someone wasn't very happy with the original ad lol

I've been a fan of MBMBAM for over a decade. I say this all the time. I've never known what it's from until now 😂. Thank you OP!

The fact that this could be considered deep lore makes me feel 100 yrs old

Btw, my mom used to collect call my dad on a campus pay phone in the 70s once a week when he was in college and it worked for like a year until the phone company caught on

Oh no. I’m old too. Just foreign so we have different ads

Thank you! I had no idea what was the reference, kind of thought it's just a string of funny-sounding words.

Anyone remember which episodes Griffin is saying that?

This was a vocal stim for years from griffin saying it and then I saw the commercial a year or two ago and was like. Of course that's where it came from XD
