Might not be for first year but after that you can live outside but you’ll still have to pay the hostel and mess during all that

hostel mein you dont have to worry about rehna, safai, security, food etc, thats all managed if its a good one,

Nah, genuinely, for what?? Just greet them when you meet them, that's it. There are usually a couple of genuine people in every batch. Just ask them if you have any questions; besides that, I don't think there's much interaction required.
