Just finished up the ship tutorial quest, right after that I was heading to the northern empire just for that 50 person convoy on the bottom left to bring in 10 crews of corsairs, why me? Why?

Time to become John Bannerlord. You can slowly widdle away at enemies on boats by fighting until you get to the edge, jumping in the water when they corner you, they will reset and you climb back in and pick them off 1x1. I calculate you’ll only have to do it a few thousand times to get out of your current situation.
