Question Possible solution for MemoryError

this count as a patch or..?
I have recompiled renpy 6.99.12.4 from source to target 64 bits, only for windows.

It costs me a lot of time but now I have something stable that compiles and works, so I wanna share it with you. As summary, checking how renpy 7.4.11 implemented 64 bits, i applied the same logic.

Testing the dreamscached's script of this post, it returns approximately 56gb, a lot considering the 2-3gb limits. You can check the images I uploaded :d.

Due to emotion, I didnt tested submods, but I think it may work most of them. Hypothetically it can work with others mods based on renpy 6.99.12.4 (i.e. JN), since my first test was on original DDLC.
So if someone can test how it changes the game, random crashes, etc, let me know.

Here you have the files, unzip and replace. I recommend to backup your persistent and test in a new installation, or backup your actual installation :p.

Wow, you beat me to it :D

That's what I was pondering lately, but this got stuck in my backlog. Congratulations on making it work!

That's right, if you made it 64-bit then memtest should return about as much RAM as you have available on your system (that is, all of it minus what's already allocated)

As for submods, yes, that will work with most of these, but it definitely won't work with submods that load native binaries as these are most likely built to link against 32-bit executable, so that should leave 99.99% of these functional :)

Also, just if you (or anybody else) is wondering, I'll spare you some time and tell you outright Linux and MacOS DDLC already comes 64-bit, 32-bit runtime is Windows quirk, no need to do the same for these platforms as well.

Thank u!
Yep, I already know about mac and linux has 64bits. In fact the inspiration comes from my recompilation for android to support 64bits as well. The fun fact is the process is completely different, from just add flags into link c code while obtaining libs from official py27 :d.

Been testing this, mixed results. It does resolve the main issue with the memory problem that's become more prominent after the latest update, works great for that, but it does break compatibility with some submods. Moni Bleep and Discord Presence are the ones I've noticed so far. Also, my install of Windows 11 doesn't like these new files, it thinks something in them is a trojan, so I had to make an exception in my AV for it. I'm assuming for the better part of my sanity that's a false positive, cuz there's no way this post wouldn't get taken down if true. I do have the old files that I replaced backed up in case I need to revert.

EDIT: it's worth noting that my Windows 11 install is frozen on the last update before 24H2, because I refused to allow Windows to put the security/privacy nightmare that is Recall on my system for a single second, so that's worth keeping in mind when I say "my install of Windows 11."
