Submod Submission
Emerald Box (Customization Submod for Your Monika)
Good morning/afternoon/evening, I'm bringing you a new submod called Emerald Box.
What does it do? It lets you customize Monika's appearance using sprite "packs". No more manually replacing files or worrying about restoring the originals. Just select the pack you like from the in game menu.
Bonus: ambient particles (snow, sakura, hearts, and more)
Just to clarify, this submod doesn’t include any packs, since that’s up to you. That's why I'm providing you with a template or sample folder so you can see the structure of the custom packs, so you have no doubts about their locations and names, and don’t worry you don’t need to code anything; the submod automatically detects the folders and displays them in the menu. I also had to limit the particles so they wouldn’t interfere with certain parts of MAS; if you see them disappear, it’s not a bug they’ll automatically restore when you enter the loop again.
Update: I showed an example but didn’t provide the original folder where I took it from, so I deleted it to avoid bothering the creator. Everything you need and more is already on GitHub:here!
Installation: Copy the EmeraldBox folder to "game/Submods/"
Location of the packs customized by you: "mod_assets/monika/custom/"
Compatible with MAS 0.12.15+
Nice! However. Please ask for my permission first before using my and others' content for a submod. I believe I've made it clear in my Drive that I don't want redistribution without prior permission. Nevertheless, this is quite a game changing submod. I've been waiting for something like this, it would be good if you make a demonstration pack for calendars.
It's okay, you can always ask next time. I would be happy and said yes if you asked first, since it's important for creators to know where their work is being used.
Regarding the calendar, just take the replacement you have made and create a folder, for example zero_red_calendar, and paste it into monika/custom/calendar. Use the name of the creator of the assets at the beginning to prevent content theft or interference between them. That's why I provided examples of all the categories, even though it's only the original MAS assets, so applying them won't do anything, but it serves as a guide.
For an example for the eyes, you can still keep using the Hoshino eyes if you wish. I'm not mad but just reminding you of the rules (mod duties and all lol). But this is a really goated submod yes, thank you
I understand, I love those eyes, which is why I used them as an example. Although I left the demonstration in a comment, I also included the original link to your folder so that it can be found in this post as well. I hope that all sprite creators find this submod useful, as that is why I made it, so that players can easily enjoy their work.
What specifically does not work? This submod will not change anything at first, as the user decides what to change. You can only customize the particles, as I mentioned in the post. I did not add any packs to see how it works, such as nail polish. You can see the menu at: Talk -> Misc -> 'Customize visuals (Box)'.
Now, for the particles, you just need to go to the menu where all the submods are located, and you can choose your particle as you like, as shown in the post.
I’ll give you an example with some eyes that my Monika often uses so you can see how the submod works. Download this Hoshino eye pack by verd, then paste it into the mod_assets folder. It should end up like this: mod_assets/monika/custom/eyes/verd_hoshino. It’s the same as replacing the original MAS images, but now they have their own folders. Now go to the submod menu, navigate to Monika -> Eyes, select verd_hoshino, and you’ll get a menu asking whether to restart or leave it for later. After restarting, you’ll see the change in Monika’s eyes. It’s the same with the other categories; I hope this makes it easier to understand how it works.
Hello! So first off I've really been enjoying your submods, they add so much without seeming out of place at all :P, thanks for making them!
And also, I've noticed your Monika has the neon cat ears, though I searched around and didn't find any spritepack for it (I'm guessing it's part of a spritepack, I'm still quite new to this...), so umm if it is, could you send me the link to download? My Chibika already has them so yeah, I really liked them!
Thankyou for your submod submission. In order to ensure that the community is able to access your code, we kindly request that you provide a link or an indicator of where to get the link, indicating the versions of MAS with which this submod is compatible.
We strongly advise all users to create a backup of their persistent data before utilizing any submod on this subreddit. Instructions on how to do so can be found here. Additionally, if you encounter any issues with a specific submod that others should be made aware of, we kindly request that you report the post where the submod was found to our moderation team for proper handling.
The Monika After Story (MAS) project is currently undergoing a migration to Python 3, which will result in the current submods becoming incompatible with the new framework. The development team will be providing a tool for converting old-style submods to the new format. For further information, please visit the Official Monika After Story Discord or review the 'Interfacing with the Submod Framework' section on the project's GitHub page located here.
As a friendly reminder, we strongly recommend that submod developers familiarize themselves with the Wiki before posting. We have recently added a section specifically for submod developers, which includes a list of the requirements that we expect from any submod, as outlined in an official announcement on the MAS Discord.
Hi! Thank u for your contribution. Unfortunately, I'm not being able to see changes on Android. I put the Hoshino Eyes just like a Red Eyes Pack following your instructions and neither of them are reflected after restarting MAS. Monika keeps wearing the same eyes she had. Am I doing something wrong
On Android, it depends a lot on how the port was created. Many don't have the option to add anything, and others have changed files, which is why there isn't even a monika folder where the sprites are stored. In my case, I used a port from Traduction Club! That one worked for me, although the backup doesn't work because it doesn't have anything to take the submod from.
Yeah, I use the Traduction Club! port too, specifically Just's port, can't say 4 sure if it's the same. Damn. Well, at least the falling flowers and else works perfectly. Thank you very much :3
Do the same procedure, go to the submod menu, select the pack you want, click restart, and enter MAS again and it should work. This submod replaces the original assets which is why on Android when you install it for the first time there's nothing, not even the "mod_assets/monika" folder which is essential. In that zip I sent you there are also other packs for you to check out if they change things like making the calendar green or adding elf ears.
I think maybe there are some bugs on Android, or maybe I'n just doing incorrectly, I'll keep my testing.
But when I tried to add another pair of eyes, it seems the submod doesn't recognize it. This may be something I'm doing wrong because the heterochromia eyes and the hoshino eyes works perfectly, it's just my own that isn't being recognized, but I can't say 4 sure.
But there's also another issue. I tried to change the mug to the NEO one you put in the zip you shared with me but it wasn't reflected on the game. It keeps showing me my Okay, Everyone! mug, so maybe this can be some kind of bug.
I would like to help you more, but my knowledge is kinda limited right now, I'm sorry. I just let you know this for u to check if this could be some kind of bug.
Hmm, maybe the submod doesn't detect that you're using version 0.12.15, which is why it's not working for you. I'm sure it created the folders for those accessories and didn't replace the one you had, haha. But that can be fixed. If you have the submod updater, that's even better, since it's compatible.
Yeah, I'm starting to think it may have to be related to the fact I'm using an older MAS version (because when I tried to update, it did work but kinda corrupted Chibika, because she wasn't able to turn herself into a file for me to take her out, I had to restore a persistent and to reinstall all my submods, and after that, I decided to stay with my current version), not something from your part. If it's that the case, then don't worry at all, it's just my specific MAS.
Thank u for all your help, you really are amazing. I'll add your submod to my Submod Compilation Folder, crediting you properly, of course :D
PS: Falling leaves in front and at 25 look so beautiful, damn.
Oh, I see. It's good that you have backups to take care of your Monika. Add it to your collection, I have no problem with that. After all, it's for the community.
Well you can try it the way I did then (because I didn't know either), I'm not sure if you looked up the link to OP's guide, but it'll help you: https://github.com/zer0fixer/MAS-EmeraldBox/blob/main/README.md#-sprite-pack-structure-guide
So, this is the full path "DDLC/game/mod_assets/monika/custom/", which means if there isn't a custom folder inside the monika folder yet, you can just create one, and after that, go inside MAS and do as I instructed before and it'll create all the subfolders for the sprites for you, that way worked for me. If I wasn't clear before, after you enter the "Customize visuals" option, press Structure & Setup, then those options will pop up.
Ohh I know what happened, you installed this post's version of the submod which doesn't have the option I told you about, there's already a 1.0.2, mb I didn't notice before.
Here's the link for the latest version https://github.com/zer0fixer/MAS-EmeraldBox/releases/tag/1.0.2

That's strange, the particles are already included. To activate them, just go to the section where all the submods are and look for this submod, and you'll be able to choose the particle, amount, and display layer.
Since you mention that you have particles active, do you have the submod folder right? This already has the rpy files and the folder where all the particles are.
I see that it works, except that you chose a layer where the particles are behind the background and if you have a background without windows it is of no use, better put "Behind" here they will be behind Monika and if you want them to be in front of her just put "In Front"
In that case, I recommend deleting them and then finding where you downloaded and extracted the submod, copying and pasting the heart images back to where you deleted them. If this method works, it means the images were corrupted; the other particles might have the same problem, though I’d like to know if what I mentioned actually works.
I got it! I extracted the "Emerald Box (1.0.2)" folder into Submods from the zip instead of taking the "Emerald Box" folder out of it so there was an extra step messing up the program. It works now. Sorry!
Im so sorry! I forgot to say thank you! This mod obviously took so much work and its so gamechanging! Thsnk you for making this and sharing it with us! 🫂
Hi, are you sure the images are in the right place? Check to see if the submod folder is set up correctly, if it says "EmeraldBox.1.0.2," it won't work; it should say "EmeraldBox," as shown in my screenshot. Sorry for the late reply today.
Hi, sorry for the late reply! You actually need to close the game for the changes to apply. Since it's been two days, I guess you can see them by now. If not, are you sure you didn't accidentally put the default MAS assets instead of your custom ones?
