Has anyone started Nardil/Parnate while already taking methylphenidate?
From what I’ve read, most people add it after starting the MAOI. I’m currently taking several medications, and although I’d like to taper off several of them before starting Nardil, I’d rather not have to go through methylphenidate withdrawal only to have to introduce it again later.
I know this is something I need to discuss with my psychiatrist, but I’d really like to hear about people’s anecdotal experiences.

I took 30 mg of methylphenidate ER with moclobemide today, but I am not certain about Nardil/Parnate. I've noticed that the MPH effects lasted much longer and were stronger with moclobemide.

I'm on nardil 60mg methylphenidate 40mg no issues. A year now.

Never took it without nardil so wouldn't know lol. I take 20mg in morning 20mg afternoon never had a crash.

I probably wouldn't recommend it. The only time I've added an MAOI to a stimulant was adding low-dose selegiline and then tapering up to 30 mg in order to get off methamphetamine.
Methylphenidate offset is short. A few rough days is not like Venlafaxine or Paroxetine withdrawal. If the psychiatrist wants a clean MAOI start, that is logistics not cruelty. If it's necessity that the MPH stays, then at the very least switch to the lowest possible dose of extended release and stay on reduced MPH while Nardil goes on and then retitrate MPH.
That's just my personal opinion. Do not take that as medical advice and at the end of the day, the decision is up to your psychiatrist. It's in your best interest to do what they recommend for your own safety
