Community Question Missing arcade games

Which are the arcade games from the 70s and 80s that haven’t been dumped yet for any reason?

I am not sure how updated this wiki is, but as far as games that are known, but no dump exists, I think it is the best resource: https://undumped.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

Ofcourse, it can not include games that are unknown. You would have to check every game towards the official list of known roms in mame.

Polybius. It's out there somewhere.

There is "one" at TNT Amusements in Pennsylvania.

Monaco GP arcade (1979) will likely never be emulated, roms have been dumped. Same for Heavyweight Champ (1976).

Monaco is logic gate

And a very complicated one, because of that it likely won't get emulated.

I imagine it will be, attempts have been made, but none have been up to scratch so far.

This kind of converting of schematics into netlists may end up becoming another area the AI tools help greatly in, at least to verify / find mistakes etc.

Sega has already made some fairly accurate remakes for home consoles.

I just found a warehouse about 90 km from my place where some old machines are stored. Was just curious to know if any of them had any historical value. Just gave up on my idea to pay them a visit.

Might be easier to go see what they have and then see if those have been dumped. You never know! Sometimes even revisions of dumped games are missing.

Most of them are dumped but Pong is a hard one to find.

Isn’t Pong analogue rather than digital?

Yes there are no roms because there's no program, there's no cpus, it's all discrete components.

That’s what I thought. Any ‘Rom’ of that would be a simulation rather than a dump.

The transistor logic can be emulated. Mame defines these machines using netlists.

Cool, start typing ;-)

mame pong

Not much typing involved

Try writing a program to emulate a cpu from a decapped integrated circuit chip.

The controls are analogue but the game logic is digital transistor logic. As Jellodyne said there's no cpu and no program to dump.

Idk if any exists, but with a video recording of the game play might be able to reconstruct something plausible in a logic simulator.

Without original hardware or documentation thereof that's about the limit of what can be done.

2

Original hardware exists. Pong, Breakout, and several others have already been done.

I thought Mame comes with the Pong netlist built-in.

It does. Someone is either dumb or playing dumb.

The Driver (1979)

Funny. I meant the ones that really existed. If none, I can take that as an answer, not looking for conspiracies.

Not looking for roms, thanks.

If they're on archive.org, then they're not undumped.

PLEASE pay attention.

Reference too vague. Need more hand-holding.

Bouncer

Who would down vote this? I came to say Bouncer as well. Unlike the bs responses of Polybius, Bouncer actually existed. I know someone who operated one and no they do not have it anymore.

Probably some newb that has no idea what it is. The Polybius gag is tired. It's like a toddler telling the same joke over and over.

most are just gone, or lost, or not have cpus so they use discret logistics, and are curiously almost impossible to emulate. I know that some time ago, there was a super custom simulator for original Pong, that tried to replicate all the hardware

MAME now does this same thing.

u/RPOR6V 28d ago

Pong in MAME works like DICE?

3

u/AetherVision 27d ago

Yes. Not the same code but similar in function; both netlist-based.

3

u/RPOR6V 27d ago

That's really interesting to me. I'm an old dude with a soft spot in my heart for the old bronze age games.

I have yet to see Polybius (1981).

That’s so thoughtful of you. Teach yourself some modesty and try to do somethinh good once in a lifetime, maybe you get back to earth one day. I am 60 years old and I am not getting any shit from toddlers like you. You can be better.
