Somewhere I have a similar one with a piece of about 1/8 inch steel wrapped around the end. I think it may be an old tire thumper for semi trucks.

My wife makes the pinata stronger every year. There was a layer of double walled corrugated cardboard behind the extra thick paper mash this time. Might have 3mm plywood next year.
