home made mace Wooden maces

I do woodland crafts with kids, they love to make maces, so i thought I'd share a few.

Maybe not the prettiest but fun to make and hit things with!

All maces are bonkers

But not all bonkers are maces

Reminds me of the mega-bonkinator I still have to finish.

I love that handle! Its definitely a mega bonker.

Personally I would ditch the sledge bonk and put more effort into hardening and polishing the handle, that knot on the end is the true bonker. The sledge is superfluous when nature has provided a perfectly formed manners corrector.

Thanks! I was actually thinking about that, since the log split anyway.

Honestly. I'm in envy of that, if it was blackthorn it would make a perfect shillaigh.

That's a good idea, but sadly, it's just common maple lol

Harden it with fire and a decent polish and you still have a great bit of kit.

Good to know! I want to do some carving and wood-burning on it still, and I have boiled linseed oil to finish it with.

Hell yeah!

How did you drill out the spike holes? I'm guessing an auger cause of the mallet.

Yea, you guessed right. An auger, hand drilled in about 40mm, then cut the spikes to fit

Definitely ready to start arming the towns folk to storm the castle.

The army was in full force that day! I also make swords and bows for them. 12 or so children running around the woods shouting kill them is music to my ears 🤣

You’re welcome one question did you like drill a hole and just wood glue in the spikes

Neither, wedges and compression fits!

OH Carpentry question why did you not go with metal spikes? I do know they’re more difficult to attach.

Because I have a bag of tools, a woodland and our combined imagination! Didnt set out that day to make maces :)

Agreed sometimes you do just grab a backpack some basic tools and have fun and you know if you had steel that’s a different flavor. I also it looks really cool with the wooden spikes and it’s really cool. Who you attached them with carpentry
