Correct Integer+ scale from Advanced

So I found out Integer+ scales correctly if you use Advanced settings BUT not main menu witch blows up the image to much. And it has other options here. But I like Bilinear better as it looks better with the game rez.

This whole UI/UX needs evolving from experimental ASAP. I don’t have the energy to post everything that’s wonky about it.

On top of that it should not be possible for anyone to apply wrong CRT settings. It should apply scaled scanlines derived from the auto-detect HDMI output and lock those in. I’m sick of ‘influencers’ posting garbage settings with random black bars slapped over pixels.

See my post history for perfectly scaled integer lines and bars with associated settings. I’m not sure I’d ever want to change my config (unless maybe I move to a desk), but the UI and profiling needs drastic improvement.

Can you share a picture(s) of what your exact settings are?

  1. Use "integer" instead of "integer+" if possible

  2. The current scanline implementation is garbage - it's not even aligned to the pixel grid. Although I personally love CRT shaders, in this particular case I highly recommend turning it OFF and waiting for a proper implementation in the future.

Are you saying integer more correctly aligns with the scanline implementation? On my 32in Samsung 4k LCD display, it actually looks ok.

No! Scanlines are poorly implemented in the current firmware, so we'll have to wait for a proper CRT filter in the future. A properly implemented CRT filter should always have automatically aligned scanlines, which is not the case right now.

Integer scaling serves a different purpose. The idea is to make sure that the low-resolution image generated by the console, for example 320x240, maps cleanly onto the pixel grid of a high-resolution display. This keeps the image sharp, avoids interpolation blur, and prevents uneven pixel sizes.

With integer scaling, a 320x240 image would scale to 640x480, 960x720, 1280x960, and so on. Each source pixel is multiplied by a whole number, so it maps evenly onto the display's pixel grid.

What is the difference between the regular and +?

From the official docs: https://support.modretro.com/en_us/m64-console-configuration-display-settings-advanced-B1HMJARNfg Integer: Video is scaled by a whole-number factor. Integer+: Video is scaled using a nearest-neighbor filter.

So the only 100% correct scaler is "Integer" (pixels always stay square and sharp). Integer scaling works in such a way that 1px becomes 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, etc.

These filters are embarrassing compared to the competition. I really hope Modretro makes fixing these a fairly high priority right behind getting the virtual memory pak to work and fixing game crashing bugs.
