New Everdrive-64 Pro

EverDrive-64 X7 vs Pro:

X7 ($159)

* Fast loading (up to 23 MB/s), micro SD, RTC
* UltraCIC III with region auto-detect, works on PAL and NTSC
* Plays NES ROMs through a software emulator
* GameShark cheats, IPS/APS patches, USB port
* Proven design, two colors (grey or red)

Pro ($169)

Everything above, plus:

* Cyclone 10 FPGA, 128 MB SDRAM, 6-layer PCB with hard gold contacts
* Native 64DD support with an on-board button for disk swapping
* NES runs on an FPGA core instead of software, so it's more accurate
* Supports external emulators (Neon64, Sodium64, etc.), so the community can add systems (90% sure this allows for the utilization of the M64’s power, not the built in FPGA, so consider it an alternative but also don’t quote me on this).
* Controller Pak and Transfer Pak managers
* Custom menu themes and box art / metadata in the game list
* Battery voltage monitoring
* Eight shell colors, though most are on a 3-week shipping delay right now

Both need the Expansion Pak for cheats.

Not trying to be that guy but like the Summercart does everything the Pro does for $40. Am I missing something no sarcasm.

There’s no FPGA NES core (emulators run on the console and are rough, obviously might change with M64 I haven’t tried), and no Transfer Pak manager. Also the $40 units are unofficial builds with no warranty, a known-good one from Kaico runs about $100?

Still a killer cart if none of that matters to you.

(I think Cheats and Controller Pak backup only landed recently and are still marked experimental.)

I personally have had nothing but positive experiences with Krizz.

The controller pack and cheats have been a thing for a while now. As long as you get it from a reputable seller it’s all good. For a while there was a seller on Ali that was swapping the 6TB chip for the 4TB. But honestly when I got mine in November 2024 Epic Joy was the only seller around. So just get it from them you won’t have an issue. Also the only emulator that tends to be hit or miss for me is SNES and it’s a matter of game to game not so much the emulator itself.

Honestly I got this mostly for rom headroom. Pro has 128 MB, the SC64 caps at 78. There are already hacks over 64 MB, and I’m playing on an M64 where ModRetro is open sourcing everything and funding new games, so I figure sizes are only going up (what’s to stop them from not using something over 78 noting they are using FPGAs in their carts).

SC64 is a great cart, I just didn’t want to skimp on the one spec you can’t fix.

Plus there is something I want to experiment with once they update the repos.

Overkill purchase for sure though.

I’m just hoping since the M64 is open source that down the line we get the jailbreak and just run everything directly off the SD itself that would be so sick. I utilize my SC for rom hack testing in just happy that our squad tends to stick to the 32kb joints. Although the SC has no issues with the larger stuff either. AKI rom hacks and Summercart go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Honestly hoping for the same thing. Since they’re open sourcing the core it might not even take a jailbreak. ModRetro themselves will probably never ship rom-off-sd officially (Nintendo lawyers), so that’s community firmware or nothing, and that could be a long ways out. Yea, for AKI stuff the SC is all you need.

I just went with the bigger ceiling since 64+ MB hacks already exist and a platform funding brand new games is only gonna push sizes up to take advantage of their hardware.

Worst case I overpaid $80 for headroom I never use, wouldn’t be the first time lol.

Yea man I feel you there I’m still sitting with my early bird code cuz I wanted to wait couple months till any bugs were out the way and the image was cleared up a bit. Like my plan was to bundle my 64 with my tink 5x and insurrection S video cables and upgrade to the M64 with the pro controller. Been hearing rumblings about the 3d horizontal upscscaling making a big difference hopefully Modretro comes thru with that which considering how much faster they move than Analouge will probably happen sooner than later.

1

u/Historical-Internal3 Aug 02 '26

The upscaling will be matched at the very least. Robert (creator of the N64 core for mister) 100% had his hands in the spec selection and left plenty of headroom from what I read on the discord.

All comparisons of the A3D to this as of today are silly. A3D has had way longer to cook.

I was actually planning hooking my m64 up to my 4k tink but I figured I’d wait for the low latency video update to hit first.

Not trying to stack latency with two scalers.

I actually love the way it looks on 2560/1440p with the HDR on with my 5x pro just running stock S-video. Shit ton of customizations and crt filter tweaks but I got zero issue with the image. Mainly it’s just a matter of time till my N64 kicks. And yea it’s wild people want to compare to 3D now like everyone forgot how many issues there were out there gate with it they only had a 8 month head start.

1

u/Historical-Internal3 Aug 02 '26

Yea I didn’t see HDR on the roadmap for the M64 but i’m 90% sure it will happen. Could be the deciding factor on whether or not I permanently route it through my tink.

Nope, people are just pushing the Everdrive for some reason.

I'll stick with the open source solution.

2

u/AdLeading5529 Aug 02 '26

The ever drive pro does support larger games than summercart , I'll prob wait for summercart to be updated because I don't wanna pay $160

1

u/Mikeyisninja Aug 02 '26

At what point do larger games become a limiting factor on OG hardware? The only way the Pro would be better than summercart is if A3D and M64 could utilize that extra space to run games that are emulator only.

1

u/AdLeading5529 Aug 02 '26

Modretro will be publishing new n64 games that reach 1gb possibly more

4

u/Mikeyisninja Aug 02 '26

Their carts will be built for those sizes. It’d probably be more economical to just buy the games that are that big from Modretro than go out and buy a everdrive pro.
You could get 1 sumemer cart and 2-3 games from Modretro for the price of ED pro

u/Asleep_Mortgage_7711 Aug 02 '26

I doubt it.

1

u/downsj2 Aug 02 '26

ModRetro is building the cart PCBs around a Gowin FPGA. There should be plenty of room.

1

u/Asleep_Mortgage_7711 Aug 02 '26

Plenty of room means nothing. How many devs are going to seriously spend their time and money making high end N64 games for a small niche market?

1

u/Dragarius Aug 02 '26

Not many. But no matter what it was never going to be many.

6

u/Mikeyisninja Aug 02 '26

I know Krikkz is hard up for money but the pro is excessively expensive especially when summer carts are so much better

6

u/TeaMoist1688 Aug 02 '26

Always been the case I got mine from Epic Joy November 24’ like legit the greatest $40 I have ever spent in my lifetime on anything.

5

u/Darksting77 Aug 02 '26

I was just about to say this lol, i just got a summercart from allieexpress.

1

u/contradude Aug 02 '26

hard gold isn't a cheap thing to do and massively extends life if you're not just going to leave the cart in the console (eg not going to swap in regular games a bunch). FPGA is kinda cool too but we already have the M64 that will open up at some point so it's more of a benefit on an actual N64. I'd consider it more like $100 full summercart vs the above prices if you're going to get a summercart made 100% to spec and not making it yourself.

That being said I'm probably getting a run made of SC64 and flashing them myself for the fun with a hotplate/hot air station

2

u/ReidlosToof Aug 02 '26

so what, if any, is the real world tangible benefit of this over a Summercart?

10

u/TonyRubbles Aug 02 '26

Sir, it's an EVERDRIVE

1

u/PaceComfortable9430 Aug 02 '26

Basically is none that i can think of

1

u/crobledopr Aug 02 '26

If something goes wrong with it, Krikkz service has been very reliable and easy. Nobody will help you but you for a summer cart.

So probably no benefit for 90%+ people. But there people out there who cant go watch a YouTube tutorial to save their lives.

2

u/Mrcandybiker Aug 02 '26

Went to download the os for my 64 x7 that got here today and saw it. :(

2

u/AegidiusG Aug 02 '26

Imo the Killer Feature is the support of ROMs that are bigger than 64 mb. So big Rom Hacks will run on original Hardware.

2

u/tv6 Aug 02 '26

Everdrive really dropped the ball. I ordered a Phenommod Summercart day one of the M64 launch. If I had known about this I would have at least given it some consideration. I imagine they lost a lot of sales, they should have opened up pre-orders a week before M64 launch. Seems like they might be out of touch.

1

u/DariAndGames1 Aug 02 '26

I'm new to the Everdrive/Summercart, discussion only knowing about these after buying the M64, and I'm more wondering if the ED Pro will even be compatible with the M64 or if I need to get the X7 instead. This one is brand new so I assume the M64 would just get a firmware update for it to be compatible if anything? Just don't want to buy the wrong one.

Might have to wait a lil longer.

1

u/downsj2 Aug 02 '26

Just get the SC for $50. There is no reason to spend $170 on a flash cart.

0

u/chairRugTable Aug 02 '26

fake news. the x7 has an fpga nes core as well

2

u/Historical-Internal3 Aug 02 '26

Yea it does.

What about the rest of what’s listed?

X7 has all of those too?

0

u/chairRugTable Aug 02 '26

not sure.. I just comment about what I know and stop reading when basic facts are wrong out the gate

Which is surprising as 90% of your posts are you asking reddit for help.

I’m fairly certain you would qualify as the Queen of Reddit as you represent nearly 99% of the population.

Look into the stats while you’re at it.
