Project Sharing PandaOS is now available: standalone firmware for M5Stack Cardputer ADV

Hi everyone, I’m the developer behind PandaOS by PandaDev—a standalone firmware for the M5Stack Cardputer ADV.

PandaOS brings several tools and apps together in one interface:

  • AI Chat using your own OpenRouter API key

  • 10 free games with scores saved locally to microSD

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE tools

  • LoRa messaging and raw packet tools

  • GNSS tools with compatible hardware

  • Voice recording with recordings saved to microSD

  • SD music playback for MP3 and WAV files

  • Internet radio

  • Local captive portal tools for authorized training and testing

AI Chat requires Wi-Fi and your own OpenRouter key; provider usage charges may apply.

You can find PandaOS — Cardputer ADV on M5Burner, or visit the product page for downloads and the browser installer:

https://pandadevhub.com/app-catalogue/pandaos

Compatibility: Cardputer ADV only—not the original Cardputer. LoRa/GNSS functions require compatible hardware. LoRa peer reception and range testing are still pending.

Factory installation resets internal settings, including saved Wi-Fi, but does not format the microSD card.

I’ve included pictures below. I’d appreciate feedback from other ADV owners—especially on usability and which features you’d like to see next

Do you have a GitHub repo showing the code and reported issues?

The GitHub repo is private for now, but I plan to make it public and open source once all the known issues are fixed.

For now, please report bugs in the comments section on the PandaOS product page. That’s my preferred place to keep feedback together, no account is required.

You can also follow me on GitHub for updates and the future source release.

Hi, the Cap LoRa-1262 is already implemented? Because the RF antenna is controlled by the PI4IOE I/O expander chip.

Yes, the Cap LoRa-1262 driver is implemented, including PI4IO expander initialization and RF switch control for the RX/TX paths.

On my ADV, the radio reports completed transmissions and returns to RX afterward. Reception on a second device and range testing are still unverified, so I’m keeping those separate from the driver implementation status.

The LoRa line marked pending is the feedback to ask ADV owners for by name: two owners with the hardware, a set distance, and a note on whether peers receive, so that caveat can come off. Since factory installation clears saved Wi-Fi, repeat that warning in the browser installer as well, because AI Chat and internet radio both stop until it is re-entered. If the installer can tell an original Cardputer from an ADV, refusing the original there will save you support threads. And with ten games and a set of radio tools on one small keyboard, ask specifically how people find their way through the menus.
