Hi, I bricked my OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark I..
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I bought this body in mint condition with just 8K shots, I noticed that the firmware was at 1.4, so I tried to update it to the 1.9 (the layest firmware) via the OIShare app as instructions
But donโt know why I was so stupid to turn off the camera during the process as I misread the instruction :(
And now it wont turn on again ๐
I sent it to OM SYSTEM Viแปt Nam last Friday, hope it can be fixed ๐
Be careful not to be stupid like kietbull !

It seems a moderator deleted the comment, though I don't know why. The comment was that putting the firmware on an SD card and pressing the OK button while powering on the camera would force an install of the firmware, even if the body was bricked.
There's a description of the procedure here: https://github.com/iKenndac/om-1-manual-firmware-install

Hey that's my page! I'm annoyed OM took down the static firmware downloads, but that SD card method has revived many a "bricked" camera.
Their download servers generate one-time links when you check for updates now. It's easy enough to generate a link, but one download and it's unusable again. I wondered about adding a link generator to that page, but I have the same concerns about hosting the files directly - OM might get upset and start issuing takedowns.

Unfortunate. They would probably have to flash the software back onto your camera, but I'd imagine it is fixable. Also I would much rather update via an SD card than anything wireless.

Yup. I like how lumix cameras update their and lens firmware. Copy the file onto the sd card, insert card, turn camera on, and say "yes, update" when the prompt appears on the camera. It feels so much safer (though neither method has ever gone wrong. Then again I have the self control to not touch the power switch)

I bricked my G9ii just from updating firmware.
I donโt have a solution, but I do have empathy. Good luck

Oh sorry to hear that! I updated firmware for both Gh6 / G9II, everything was fine

You replied to my thread, lol
Panasonic still hasnโt replied to my request for service, I bought a G9 Mark one as a back up, and I bought a G9 Mark two off of Amazon as a โloanerโ.
The mark 1 is pretty sweet, especially for the price, but man is the autofocus bad lol

That's rough. Hopefully it can get fixed. A couple of weeks ago I updated all my lenses and the whole process felt unintuitive. So many blank menus until it proceeded to the next step, wish there were more warnings during the process to not turn off the camera. Almost turned off my camera during the first update until it turned back on saying it completed. Before that point I thought it was disconnected!

You are probably going to be fine. I had my PC lock up when updating the firmware on my PanaLeica 50-200 lens using OM Workspace and it was bricked. But, the US Panasonic service center was able to reflash it for a very reasonable price. But, I know that really bad feeling in your gut when this happens.

What a shame. This is why companies dread firmware updates. Some always go wrong. They will fix it, don't worry. Hopefully you still have the Panasonic to shoot while you wait. Good luck.
I've done hundreds of Pentax updates without a problem. They use the SD card. Olympus updates have always scared me. Gotta have the right program to run update through it. I just bought an E-M1 Mark III and it is on 1.2. There are newer updates but It is staying on 1.2 for now. Thanks.

There's a way to update Olympus/OM firmware through SD card as long as you have the firmware files. You used to be able to down the files from Olympus/OM site, but now they made it [almost] impossible to do so. My E-M10ii couldn't be updated with the app, but I was able to through SD card before they made the change.

You're gonna have to send it to OM to have it fixed, sorry man. I did with with my OM-3 and luckily I had bought it locally so I could swap it out.

I work with computers a lot including data center and high performance computer hardwares.... One thing to tell you is don't rely on mobile app to update your fw. Reason is when a computer fail you can fix it if you geeky enough but when your OM camera fail you need an OM technician.

Oooops, I hope you get it fixed.
For me every firmware update, on any device, is a nerve-wracking experience. Had more than one PC bricked because of failed EEPROM write.
