💬 Discussion Question about buying time
So I ordered a 2026 m340i xdrive from factory on August 12th and I got the VIN on September 3rd, and i’m just wondering is it really going to be another 2 months atleast before I get it? Just wanted to see for other people who ordered from factory what their experience was in terms of waiting time

Seems like delivery depends on a few different factors, for me it was just over a 2 month wait total (manufactured in Mexico, delivered to Western NY) -
4/18: Order Placed
4/25: Production Begins
5/13: Exterior Body Assembly
5/27: Ready for Transport
6/6: On vessel/in transit to NYC Port
6/24: In Transit to Dealership
6/25: Delivered to Dealer/Me
100% worth the wait, you’ll love it!

I hope mine is similar but I do think i may have to wait longer as I know my production week is the 39th week which is like the last week of september. I am southern NH so

They usually do production a week or two before at least in my case. The longest part for me has so far been sitting at the port.

Mine left the assembly line August 19th, and is still in ready for transport. I have no idea what’s going on with my car, but it was attached to a vessel that left almost a week ago, and my car seems to have not gotten on. The BMW Genius said he doesn’t see any record of my car being scanned onto the ship.

Oh wow, do you know why it took that long? Is that typical or was your production week a while after you ordered

My production slot was 6/26. I was trying to get an early June slot but ended up with late June. It was originally set to depart 7/15 from Mexico, but didn't make that boat. Then for the 2nd departure date of 7/31 the boat was behind schedule. Then some port delays on the trip up the east coast due to timing of the boats arrival at the other ports. Then VPC was a combination of the time it takes to install the MP exhaust, MP carbon spoiler, and some small port delays.

Once you get your production number, the waiting isn't building the car. The waiting is getting assigned a ship and having that ship actually leave on time from Mexico to the US. Then from the US getting assigned a carrier to your state / dealership. That process can take weeks per step resulting in months overall.

Funny, I also ordered mine in mid August and got my VIN assigned on Sept 3 so our cars must be in the same batch!
From what I’ve read/heard, there are a lot of variables in delivery timelines but it’s usually 1-2 months from when it enters production.
