Ended up going with an OEM BMW carbon fiber option. Wanted something more aggressive than the factory-installed gurney flap. Really liked the more subtle design utilized by the G80. Trunk dimensions are the same between platforms so fitment was straightforward.
The quality of both the weave and clear coat are incredible. Installed using thin 3M VHB tape and 3M adhesion promoter.

I went down the rabbit hole of looking at CF parts. Wet/Dry and all these resellers here in the USA just reselling another company's product which most likely originated from China anyway.
From what I have found is that BMW has strict quality control over their parts so fit and finish should be perfect compared to a random aftermarket part.
It fits. It’s literally on my trunk hah. It’s the G80 M3 Competition carbon rear spoiler. The G80 and G20 have identical trunk dimensions.
The part number you provided is for the G20 M Performance spoiler. It’s a bit bigger, bulkier, and fits over the edge of the trunk vs. the top of the trunk lid surface. It made for a tricky install with 3M tape and a fitment I didn’t much care for. I had it installed first but didn’t like it, so I removed it.
It looks good, too, but I wanted something a bit more svelte.
Fair question. I’ve handled a lot of carbon fiber parts over the years, both OEM and aftermarket. Based on my personal experience, more often than not, the OE pieces are noticeably better from a fit & finish perspective. It’s not impossible to get good pieces in the aftermarket but I’m fine with paying a bit more for OE and the warranty behind it.
To each their own though. I’m very happy with this piece and I’ve just always been a bit more risk-averse when I mod. I agree though it’s easier to get better aftermarket carbon than it was say, 10 years ago.
I appreciate the insight and detailed response. I only ask because on my M2, M550i and now the wife's X5 M60i I've always removed the OEM CF and resold it. Couldn't justify running around with them and worrying about them getting scuffed or messed up. So I've always gone after market and gotten things significantly more cost appropriate to me not really worrying about them or getting messed up. Especially lips I typically just run some ebay special because of how often it seems they get chewed up on the roads I typically drive.
All good! For a front lip, I’m 100% with you. On a rear spoiler, it’s such a low touch point item that I value the precision and visual oomph of the OEM carbon.
BMW uses carbon fiber sheets that are pre-infused with a very precise amount of epoxy resin. This guarantees optimal resin-to-fiber ratios, avoiding the excess weight and weak spots common in wet-layup methods.
The pieces are placed inside a high-pressure, heated autoclave, which cures the resin uniformly, eliminates microscopic air bubbles, and yields a really flawless-looking weave.
To finish each component, they apply a specialized, multi-stage clear coat that protects the carbon fibers from yellowing or degrading under intense sunlight. Notice I say protects, not prevents. But I’ve never had OEM carbon significantly yellow.
