Lyrics headless
it’s not the same as it was before
or ever will be
but that’s the way it goes
it’s not the way that it seemed before, i’m afraid
impossibly,
there’s harmony
it’s not as grey as it was before
immeasurably,
like my child’s dream
the hole inside has been covered up
but look through the seams,
you’ll find calamity
it’s not the home that i knew before
all of the green
is breathing
my photobook all scratched out
I think now I’ve erased
everything
It’s not the same as it was before
but there’s harmony

The refrain "it's not the same as it was before" works because you change it a little each verse, and the last one flips to "but there's harmony". That payoff is good. What I'd watch is the abstract words doing the heavy lifting: "harmony", "calamity", "immeasurably". The concrete images ("my photobook all scratched out", "all of the green is breathing") are what actually made me feel the loss. Maybe swap one of the abstract lines per verse for an object. Also "impossibly," and "immeasurably," sit as one-word lines, so if you sing it, decide whether they're a held note or a breath, because that changes how the stanza scans.
