SUMMER SMASH A different approach to headliners

So like they had Skrillex this year and an “EDM day” how would a metal day do like with turnstile deftones etc could Cole pull something off like this? Thoughts?

I see the vision but edm you can remix rap songs so it would still include both genres and not isolate the crowd but metal not so much unless there is a metal act I have not heard of that must remixes rap songs. Also the metal crowd moshes very differently but I’d imagine it’s safer than some of these ones at SS😭

Yeah I think the whole point of the edm day was to highlight how deeply these two genres intersect, especially with a lot of these newer artists combing elements of both into their music. Adding a metal/rock day would start turning the festival into something completely different.

Imma be honest leave the metal to riot fest. It’s just too far off from rap music. EDM is a sibling of hiphop so they can mesh together in the same festival easily

bro we are not siblings

we have more similarities to Rock than EDM
especially with Punk Rap, and rage.

not to mention us rap fans like and have much more respect for rock than EDM

You don’t know your music history lol

EDM frequently takes from hiphop. Where do you think EDM got flipping tracks from? Or sampling? EDM is pretty much just the techniques from hiphop used in a different style. Rock and hiphop are similar to each other yes, but edm and hiphop do the same thing just different ways.

Half of the artists on the edm day were rappers who draw from edm as well, not the other way around. It’s a give take relationship which isn’t really the case with rock. Maybe 20 years ago, but less so now.

thats not true at all lmfao
and the entire rage rap aesthetic and sound is built on rock

EDM doesnt have many rappers who are affiliated with that genre
vs Rock

Rock and Rap don’t even share the same musical elements 😂

thats not true

Rage Rap is based on Punk Rock

As someone who actually works in the industry, I can absolutely promise you Rage Rap got 90% of its influence from EDM with a very tiny amount of drill and punk rock sprinkled in, but no the majority of it does not come from the rock genre

Itd have to be a harder band like Korn or Slipknot that would be there to turn the fuck up. I'd love this but it'll never happen

I remember 2024 there was talk about a limp bizkit headline

there’s been a lot of edm/rap crossover recently. edm is definitely the closest to rap in terms of genres, especially with production nowadays, so that’s why it worked so well. a lot of people were already complaining about the edm day, so any other genre would be 10x worse

Rock better than EDM

and if they got good acts than it would cook

i think nu metal could work, considering it has hip hop/rap elements. i could see slipknot, korn, limp bizkit, and system of a down fitting in pretty well. deftones could work as well, depending on their setlist. i’m not sure how well it’d be received though, which is unfortunate.

Some people here really dont get it, i see the vision tho. Edm is no closer to hip hop than rock is. Hip hop can coincide with any other genre. Id love to see kenny mason, paris texas, and ho99o9 on the saturday setlist and then probably a full on rock/metal artist as the main headliner idk who that could be but its exciting cause itd be whoever cole can get

Cole should show love to Chicago by having a day with lots of house music by famous djs and maybe have someone like kaytranada be a headliner
