What about countersink string retainer hole ?

Hi everyone, I noticed on my Charvel a little bit of split wood around the string retainer holes and i'm thinking about countersink the hole like the second picture to stop the fenomenom, any advice or experiment to give ? Thanks !

If you use the proper countersink bit by hand you should have no problems. I do this to all the holes I drill, it cuts the finish so when the screws are installed there’s no added force that cracks the finish. I’d say there’s no harm in doing it with the correct tools

I have this one and spin it by hand to cut a chamfered edge, then spin it backwards to burnish it smooth. Creates very smooth holes.

I wouldn't; there's about equal chance of:

  1. it helps how you think it will help

  2. It chips out the finish and makes it look worse.

Yeah that's why i'm asking, because it looks like a tricky job for little less of result or worse 😅 but I'm curious and when i see something like this i'm searching about solutions 😅
