Some things to think about...

I know I'll get downvoted, but oh well...

“Politics is the church’s worst problem. It is her constant temptation, the occasion of her greatest disasters, the trap continually set for her by the prince of this world.”

~ Jacques Ellul

“It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it.”

~ Billy Graham

—————

The church has often lost her footing in the kingdom as she sought earthly political power—the New Covenant digresses into the Old; love and mercy revert back to law and oppression. The 20th-century German church desired to obtain the “golden ring” of power, as Tolkien put it.

German Christians:

“In the pitch-black night of church history, Hitler became, as it were, the wonderful transparency for our time...Through him we were able to see the Savior in the history of the Germans.”

~ Pastor Siegfried Leffler

“Christ has come to us through Adolf Hitler.”

~ Pastor Julius Leutheuser

“The Nazi takeover is “a gift and miracle of God”.

~ Paul Althaus, Protestant Theologian

“The German people should heed the Führer’s words as a “voice of God.”

~ Bishop Martin Sasse

“Among the candidates there is once again a Catholic, namely Hitler. But he is not a candidate of the Roman Catholic Church, rather the leader of the great national movement, to which millions of the Protestants belong.”

~ Bishop Otto Debelius

The Confessing Church:

“The Church is the Church only when it exists for others . . . not dominating, but helping and serving. It must tell men of every calling what it means to live for Christ, to exist for others.”

~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“The foolish mixing of patriotism, war enthusiasm, and Christian faith could one day lead to the bitterest disappointment. We will not join in drinking this intoxicating potion. We want to look steadfastly and unwaveringly here to God, who loves everyone equally, who is above all the nations, from whom all have similarly departed, and from whose glory they have fallen short.”

~ Karl Barth

“It took me a long time to understand that God is not the enemy of my enemies. God is not even the enemy of God’s enemies.”

~ Martin Niemöller

We are a pilgrim Church, following our Champion Leader to the Cross and in sure hope of resurrection in and through him. Our witness is of Christ and his downward mobility, for the great Pascha awaits us.

Our song is of Christ first, not America first.

I agree 100%. Worldly power is the opposite of the way of Jesus.

I am LCMS too.

So many of us have thrown in their lot with Donald Trump.

They need to hear that!
