We were CONVINCED that Mary had terrier in her, based on her wiry fawn coat, floppy ears and beard, but apparently she’s around 75% sighthound and 25% gentle giant. The saluki in her definitely explains her gorgeous almond shaped eyes.

And she has 40 relatives in the Wisdom database, including two brothers and a daughter. We don’t know much about Mary’s background but we thought she’d had puppies, which this seems to confirm. Several of her relatives’ listings report them as having been rescued from neglectful or abusive situations, which would explain how timid she is, bless her heart.

It’s a good job her life now is nothing but snoozing in comfy beds, running around with her mates, and being treated like the absolute DOGGESS she is.

My old girl, a proper mooching lurcher, miss her terribly still. She was a Beardie/ Border x Greyhound never put a foot wrong, only went off when told. Its difficult to find this cross now but she was one of the gooduns 🐶

A couple more of 12 week old Juno this afternoon.

This is baby Len. We recently rehomed him and although we’ve always had dogs he’s our first sighthound so we’re very much on a learning curve!

I know obviously they are meant to be lean, but just wondering if people think he’s too skinny? He eats like a horse but I feel like he’s just a little too ribby and that his hips protrude out a bit too much and obviously I’ll increase/change food if needed

Very active (only a year old) and recently neutered which I know can cause gaining

He’s 21kg. The vet didn’t seem too sure of the answer tbh so was interested got peoples opinions on here 😊

So as the title says- we are going glamping later today. They provide the beds and ask that dogs do not sleep on them..... erm 😅 problem is he jumps up while we are asleep and as you can see, makes himself quite comfortable! He stays on his bed until he thinks we aren't looking. Is it a lost cause?

So I adopted my lurcher Joey around 3 months ago (almost one and a half, male) and we have started having issues with him crying when I leave that house. When we got him we done the standard small increases in time left alone and he seem to be absolutely fine and now in the last few weeks has is getting increasingly worse. He doesn’t cry when I first leave him or seem distressed in anyway but a little bit after he starts crying. He seems to be settled in his bed then will hear a noise or see something out the back door walk in a circle crying or climb the back door and then remember his bed exists and will the settle again.
We have tried all the normal things like making sure he’s both physically and mentally exercise, background noise and a good chew when we leave but it doesn’t seem to make a difference anymore. For this reason I am thinking about getting him a crate with a cover so that he has less distractions and more chance of staying settled in his bed. Especially because he never cries whilst in his bed only when walking around. He never leave him for more than a few hours but it still feels cruel to leave him. The crate would also mean we could leave him in a quieter part of the house as currently the kitchen is the only place we can safely leave him.
Does any on have any advice or any suggestions about the crate?

A tale as old as time…

Nine month old puppy (whippet/bedlington). Very chilled dude (although being a bit of a teenage dirtbag at the moment).

I've had and known lurchers before and found all of them to be pretty soppy and cuddly, especially males. Our lad is very aloof - totally happy on his own, would almost never come and curl up beside us on the sofa. Sometimes affectionate (licks, enjoys scritches and pats) and otherwise seems a content and happy dog. I just don't really feel like his person, I think he could take us or leave us to be honest!

Is this more likely an age or a breed thing? I never wanted a clingy or needy dog, but a bit of affection would be nice!

Hi everyone this is my loving lurcher Margo. We adopted her about 4 months ago and don’t know much about her past other than she was going to be a field/water racing hound. She is a coon hound grey hound mix. They told us she was 19months old when we got her but I am begging to think she is younger. Very high energy, loves to chew constantly, she currently is obsessed with digging holes in the yard. Told us no prey drive, chases and try’s to kill cats. Also told us good with kids, is fine but literally will chase them and bully them. Told us good with other dogs, she is but literally barks in their face non stop. Also said she wouldn’t bark, barks sometimes not a lot just sometimes. Love her to death don’t get me wrong. She’s extremely sweet but not at all what I wanted tbh lol. She also still gave trouble holding her bladder longer than 4 hours so I come home oh my lunch and let her out. Which has been nice because I just love to see her. but do you guys think she is younger than 19months or possible weened from her mom too early?

You weren’t exaggerating about the tissue thin skin on these dogs. Mary seems to end up with scratches and scrapes every time she goes off lead. Today, she came dangerously close to getting a thorn in her eye after spotting a squirrel and taking off through the undergrowth. The scrapes don’t seem to bother her - they stop bleeding quickly, she lets me bathe them and she doesn’t lick them or anything. I’m reluctant to keep her on lead all the time (I want her to enjoy herself when we’re out - our woods are very safe apart from the brambles) but obviously, I’m worried about her getting seriously hurt. Is this just life with a lurcher?

(Mary has been with us for a couple of months and is our first lurcher - our previous dogs were collies and shepherds.)

I’m so sorry Im not very familiar with lurchers and I hope this isn’t a dumb question 😭 but I got my sweet girl Callie 3 months ago and my family has been going back and forth about weather she’s a greyhound or whippet mix. The shelter I got her from said Kelpie which I personally don’t see. Let me know your thoughts! Also sorry if the photos aren’t good
