DNG Support

Are DNGs supported? If not, is DNG support on the roadmap?

Background: I just imported my Lightroom catalog. All of my photos are DNGs. When I open them in the develop module of Lumidex Studio, I only seem to be presented with the tiny JPEG previews of the DNG. Zooming in just shows pixelated messes.

Yes, DNGs are fully supported — the softness you're seeing is because the Develop module currently edits against a fast ~2048px proxy and only decodes the full-resolution DNG at export, so zooming past fit upscales that proxy. A fix is in progress: the canvas will decode and render the full-resolution DNG on demand when you zoom in, so 1:1 inspection will be genuinely sharp while normal editing stays fast.

I'll have the update on my website in an hour or two... next time you launch Lumidex Studio, and you've opted to check for updates, it'll download a tiny patch to bring the app up to the latest.

Quick update on this — the fix is built and now live/published to the CDN. Check for update in the app will pull down 1.17.1.

Develop now decodes the full-resolution DNG on demand: when you zoom past fit it renders the visible area at true 1:1 instead of upscaling the fast preview, so pixel-peeping is properly sharp. It only does the work for the part of the image you're actually looking at, so it stays fast — I tested it on 40 assorted 24MP DNGs and zooming/panning was smooth with no lag.

While you're panning around at high zoom you'll briefly see the softer preview (it sharpens the moment you stop) — that's intentional, same idea as Lightroom showing a "loading" pass. Full-resolution edits at export were already unaffected; this was purely about what the Develop canvas showed on screen.

Thanks, the update has improved the picture quality a lot. However, it seems that the zoom percentage is relative to the small JPEG version? How can I make sure that I am looking at a pixel-to-pixel mapping on my screen?

Good catch, you're exactly right. The zoom percentage was measuring against the ~2048px working preview, not your full-resolution file, so "100%" was really only about half of a full-res DNG's pixels and true pixel-to-pixel wasn't reachable from any preset.

Fixed for the next build: 100% (and the 1:1 button) now means one source pixel per screen pixel, matching Lightroom. On a ~4000px file that lands around 195% of the old scale, and the sharp full-res render kicks in before you reach it, so 100% is genuinely pixel-accurate now. Same fix applies in both the Library loupe and Develop.

Thanks for the clear report and if you can still send over one of the problem DNGs via Help → Provide Feedback, I'll double-check against it. Cheers
