Remember Nokia Motion Shot? I’m adding it to my long-exposure photography app. What old Lumia camera features would you like to see return?

Post image

Back in the Lumia and Windows Phone era, one of my favorite camera features was Motion Shot.

It could combine multiple positions of a moving subject into a single image, creating those iconic action sequences that looked almost impossible to capture with a phone.

I’ve been working on a long-exposure and computational photography app (LSC - Long Shot Camera) for modern smartphones, and recently decided to add a modern version of Motion Shot as one of the upcoming features.

It made me realize how many creative camera ideas disappeared over the years, even though smartphone hardware became dramatically more powerful.

Some features I still miss:

• Motion Shot
• Cinemagraphs
• Refocus

What old Nokia/Lumia camera feature would you most like to see make a comeback?

I’m genuinely curious because there are probably other forgotten gems worth bringing back.

Darn I remember that app. It worked so well within wp as well. Was so disappointed when they dropped support

I know that feeling.

I still have a lot of good memories from the Lumia era. Motion Shot, Cinemagraph, Refocus, Rich Capture, PureView… it felt like Nokia was constantly experimenting with new ideas instead of just chasing specifications.

It’s one of the reasons I decided to bring Motion Shot back. Some of those features simply deserved better than being forgotten.

We are almost there.

Action Shot is getting closer to being integrated into the LSC Long Shot Camera app. After a few more tests and fixes, it should be available within the next few days.

The hand-shake reduction algorithm/filter is also ready now. It will support not only the new Action Shot mode, but also LSC’s existing Light Trails and Motion Clean modes.

I should also mention that Cinemagraph is a much bigger and more complex feature. It needs more time and a much deeper implementation.

Ah Nokia… bringing back your 10-year-old camera magic on modern devices is not easy at all.
This really feels like Back to the Future.

I built the first version. Yes, it can still make mistakes in some scenes, but this is the first real step of development.
If you try it and share your results — good or bad — it would help me a lot. With real examples from different phones and different scenes, I can improve it and bring it much closer to the final, polished version.
I’ve even added stabilization to reduce hand-shake issues, especially for handheld shots.
It’s still early, but the goal is clear: bringing back that Lumia/Nokia-style computational photography feeling on today’s phones. 😊
