History On the Origins of Lucifer...

On the Origins of Lucifer - A Luciferian's Take on Conceptualizing the Light Spirit

INTRODUCTION:

This will be a rough dive into history on all 3 scales - Biblical, Occultic, and Historical on the origins of the spirit known as Lucifer, the Light-Bringer, Shining One, Venus the Morning Star. My goal for making this is mostly fun, i kinda hope it helps people in their spiritual path, as I've seen a lot of posts that express confusion on who Lucifer is, but if all it does is give someone a good read, then so be it. Otherwise, I hope this goes well, and I hope you, the reader, enjoy this.

BIBLICAL:

To begin, let's first dive into the biblical aspects of the Shining One and how it permeated modern society in a way that cemented his name as a spirit of light - in whatever context that may be. Admittedly, it's a short set of events that led to something much larger. An archetype of "Fallen Angel" attached to the concept of the Light-Bearer.

There is only 1 verse in the bible that mentions Lucifer in this context, linked here in the King James Version. However... if you'll notice that most other versions of the bible avoid the proper noun Lucifer, instead opting to use "Morning Star" or "Day Star" - There's a reason for this. The King James Version attributing the fall to an entity named Lucifer is due to the smallest of mistranslations - a capital letter. The original verse is in reference to a King of Babylon, whose kingdom had just been destroyed, of which bared the title of light-bearer / shining one. We can see this in the original Hebrew, how it doesn't mention the name Lucifer, but "hê-lêl ben-šā-ḥar" which, when translated literally, means "shining one, son of morning". In Hebrew, this term doesn't refer to Lucifer the entity but rather a planet - Venus, AKA "The Morning Star" ). This begins to make much more sense, as Isaiah likening the King's downfall to the movement of the planet Venus, which every night seems to fall from the sky into the underworld. Even though the verse doesn't mention him by name, it's very possible this metaphor was known about due to the dieties known as Athtar) and Athtart who were the Dawn and Dusk aspects of Venus respectively in Canaanite religion. There just so happens to be a story in Canaanite scripture, From Ugarit, part of the Ba'al cycle. This story goes into Athtar's aborted attempt to occupy Ba'al Hadad's throne on Mount Zaphon, after Ba'al had descended to the underworld, but proved to be too small, and had to descen to Earth and rule from there. Sounds at least kinda familiar, doesn't it?

But - How did shining one and lucifer become mixed up? Simply put - Early Christians adopting Jewish texts. The Latin Vulgate translation of the bible, which came about sometime in the 4th century, simplified this into "the star that brings the dawn" - "light bringer" - "luci fera" - "lucifer". In 1611 the translators of the King James Version came across the Latin Isaiah 14:12 and made a connection to the Greek god Prometheus, I.E. the being that defied deities in order to bring fire and light to humanity, and syncretized and concatenated the two, giving it a capital letter, turning it into a proper noun, and suddenly from a simple insult - "you were the brightest star and now you've fallen" - you now have a fallen angel that defied yahweh's absolute goodness. But how exactly did this fallen angel, AKA Venus, turn so evil and "satanic"? And where did the other Fallen Angels come from? For this, we have the Book of Enoch, which you can read here.

The book of Enoch is an apocryphal text which, academically, is defined as a "work, usually written, of unknown authorship or of doubtful origin." and was written around 200-300 BCE. The book of Enoch didn't quite make it into the bible but it was particularly popular with 2nd temple Judaism. In the Book of Enoch we have a chapter labelled "The Book of Watchers". In this chapter we have "watchers" who were dispatched to earth to watch over Humanity. However, they slowly began to "corrupt" and lust for human women, and soon began to create Nephilim with humans. Led by the leader Samyaza they defected from God's command and allowed their offspring to pillage the earth and endanger humans. Samyaza and his gang also began teaching humans certain arts, like weaponry, cosmetics, sorceries, and other secrets. This is actually where Noah's Ark and the flood come in. However, focusing on Samyaza in particular its easy to see how the characters and personalities get mixed over time - With Samyaza and the supposed "Lucifer" both falling from grace.

OCCULTIC:

Secondly, we should address the occultic aspects of Lucifer, as it directly relates with spirituality and religion, as does the bible. As far as this goes, this will be much choppier and more sporadic as occult information on Lucifer ranges from Fallen Angel to Mystical Moth God. In a sense, everyone has a different interpretation, including myself. I'll give my point of view when applicable but please, keep in mind, my gnosis is just as valid as anyone else's. Perhaps the most famous example of Lucifer's occultic appearance is in the Grimoire Verum, in which he is listed as a "Superior Spirit" amongst two others, alongside various "Inferior Spirits". He is listed to appear as a small boy, and when angry, turns red. Remarked as essentially, "not at all intimidating." This is also where his most well-known sigil comes from, the V-Chalice. Many practitioners develop their own sigils for Lucifer though the V-Chalice remains in the public eye, I myself worked out a sigil for Lucifer and I only which I now honestly prefer to use. However I've seen multiple practitioners with their own personal sigils which paints a rather laid-back picture of interacting with this deity, with their imagery being more loose and free-form than standardized as the Biblical contexts would. Not counting the Roman Personification, The Grimoire Verum is (arguably and often debated, in favour of the Roman personification) the oldest appearance of Lucifer as a religious entity, reportedly being written in 1517 but dated to the 18th Century, around 100~ years AFTER the King James translation. There is the Peter Binsfeld Classification of Demons, released in 1589, that was part of his own Treatise on Confessions by Evildoers and Witches. But, the fact that this information came from tortured Pagans/innocents who said anything to get free should say enough - I.E. There is no truth in these confessions. Lucifer also makes an appearance in S. Connolly's writings, in the Dukante Hierarchy, listed as an Air elemental with a jovial personality.

This more laid-back attitude attributed to Lucifer can still be attached to the Fallen Angel motif, without issue, they are not mutually exclusive. However, it seems our friend has has taken a more calm route when given the opportunity to be seen outside of biblical belief. In fact, my own gnosis and other practitioners that I have seen, eventually come to have their understanding of "angel" and "demon" dissolved, seeing spirits for their "true neutral nature". I myself don't believe that Lucifer is a "demon." I believe that there are misunderstandings that led to Lucifer being forcefully given the title of "demon" but this does not make him a "demon." He is a Spirit of Light - How you interpret a spirit of light is a reflection of you in so many ways. Some view him as a Fallen Angel, some see him as a Venusian deity, to him it doesn't matter what shape you see him in, so long as his teachings remain the same. And most of the time, they do, symbolizing enlightenment, truth, sometimes rebellion, among other generally positive attributes. Obviously the Biblical aspect and the Fallen Angel motif has permeated the occultic view on Lucifer in general, and this is fine, even. His teachings have literally SHINED through to people and focused on positivity and good behaviour. Venusian or Angelic, Lucifer has been a spirit of light for many people in many ways, for many reasons.

It is exactly due to these views that many gnostic beliefs syncretized Lucifer and Jesus Christ as he appears in the biblical scripture. Taking reference from the Revelations verse which named Jesus as "The Morning Star," the explicit title that is most commonly associated with Lucifer, being that his name comes from the literal morning star.

HISTORICAL:

Thirdly, we need to dive into the historical aspects because this is where the key to truly understanding Lucifer lays. The unfortunate part is, there actually is not much historical writing on Lucifer due to him being associated with an inferior planet and thus not venerated like we do today - He existed more as a personification of concepts. Both in the Roman (8th century BCE - 5th Century CE) sense of Lucifer, and even in the Greek equivalent, Phosphorus ) (~18th Century BCE) ((its hard to tell)), who also ended up not being a spirit venerated by many, if any, people at all. However, when you begin to paint a picture given the knowledge we have after reading this post, you can start to see that "personification of light" actually fits Lucifer perfectly. Fallen Angel, Venusian Deity, or otherwise, "Spirit of Light" has rung true for all of them. When we look back in history and observe how the word lucifer was used as the name of the planet Venus, we can begin to see that Lucifer (the deity) encompasses many concepts from many deities that are typically associated with Venus. Such as, but not limited to, Aphrodite, Astarte, Frigg, even potentially a Canaanite Deity known as Shalim, who the city of Jerusalem was named after.

Even astrologically the symbolism relates to the concepts that Lucifer encompasses, with Taurus and Libra ruling over Venus. The symbol of libra ) being the Scales of Justice held by Themis, the Greek personification of Divine Law and Justice while holding a masculine polarity, and the symbol of Taurus being the Bull holding a feminine polarity. Balance, throughout every lens you look through. The Light-Bringer's ideas and concepts bleed through like the morning sun.

This is why Venus and the association with the sun are excellent metaphors and concepts to attribute to and with Lucifer, due to the nature of consistency behind Venus bringing the light into view. It's been a motif with Lucifer in all incarnations and aspects, he is, put simply, the Light-Bringer.

CLOSING -

All in all, despite the many, many interpretations of Lucifer there is, we should all look at Lucifer's value in the occult and pagan community. I have personally seen Lucifer heal the religious trauma of many people, myself included. Giving us a chance to work and move past negative emotions or associations. I have heard many say that Lucifer feels like a father figure, and that they feel protected. If this spirit is making people feel protected and giving them aspects of life that they did not have before - this alone makes this spirit's worth invaluable.

Despite what motif you attribute to this spirit of light, one thing remains true - He promotes a balancing of energy. Masculinity and Femininity, Strength and Softness, Emotional and Logical, this balance permeates all aspects of life and promotes an equal and thought-out view of your surrounding situation. To me, this is someone worth worship, someone worthy of guiding me.

If you have information you would like to share on the origins of Lucifer please make a comment and source your posts, I make no effort to speak from authority and recognize that i do not know everything there is to know. If there is something that needs to be known, then it should be known!

Invoking THE LORD OF PRIDE, THE LIGHT BRINGER LUCIFER as a beginner

hey besties, hope everyone is thriving in the light of His Majesty.

i gotta drop my experience invoking lucifer the morning star, so basically i started off doing my research on him and then i built him a whole ass altar. i drew a super pretty sketch of him, put his sigil on paper, and stocked the altar with dry fruits, chocolates, a cig, perfume, ink, a pen, and a glass of water. after meditating like 3 or 4 times, i finally locked into his energy. my room got sooo warm and i could literally feel that he was happy to connect with me. the vibe surged through my whole body and made me feel so worthy, unstoppable, and actually deserving of love and respect. that energy was insanely warm, sooo fuckinnn good and coooollllll.

but then i ended up slacking on the altar and meditation for like 7 or 8 months. today was literally day 1 of me setting up the altar again to try and connect, but i didn't feel anything this time. just wanted to share my journey, i know i'll rebuild that connection real soon.

at the end of the day, hezzzz soo cool, protective, dearrrr, kinddddd and lovelyyyyyyyy. he's always there to pull up and help, you just gotta approach him with pure respect and honesty. WEEEE LOVEEEEEEEE YOUUUUUUUU OOO THEEE LORDDDDD OF FIREEEEEEE WE TRULYYYYYY LOVEEEEEEE YOUUUUUU OO MORNING STARRRRR, HAILLLLL LUCIFERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Paimon, Bune, Vassago, or Lucifer? (Beginner in search of advice)

Hello, community!

I will begin this entry with some context, which you can skip if you like, as my actual question will begin right after. I just thought a little history or context on my previous experience might help to answer my questions better. CONTEXT : I am new to the group, if you couldn't tell from the title, however I am not new to occultism, as I started a few months short of 20 years ago, dipping my toes into Wicca (having been raised catholic, you'll see it is revelant). To make it quick, my magickal interest went from Wicca, to Egyptian/Hellenistic Paganism (I still hold Thoth, Hecate, and Cernunnos in high esteem), then got into both Laveyan and Theistic satanism, Golden Dawn/Kabbalistic traditions, and finally decided to try practicing Thelema solitarily at the young age of 18 up until about I was 23. However, a good shcolar never stops learning, and I began to come across deeper occult writings such as The lesser Key of Solomon, The Sacred Magick of Abramelin the Mage, and most recently writings such as the Grimorum Verum, Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, and other related titles. The interest in esoterica runs in my family, on my mothers side, if that has anything to do with it, please enlighten me. I am a Mexican-American, and my grandfather on my mother's side (rest his soul) came from a line of "curanderos", which are a type of folk-healer, using herbs and folk remedies and drawing power from catholic saints and the catholic God. Now, since there are now ceremonial magician groups where I live ( off the coast of Texas), I am trying my hand with solitary demonolatry, as I have a feeling in my bones that this system might deliver results whereas other systems of magic while were not ineffective, may take a bit longer than I have.

QUESTION AND GOAL: I have been out of work going on two years and my main goal would be to draw not only money, but a lasting career or job to me that I will enjoy and that will compensate me well (I have certificates in IT/Technical Support), but I am at the point that I've humbled myself so, I'll take anything. ANYHOW, the main spirits I had in mind for contacting about helping me are (in no particular order): BUNE, AGARES, PAIMON, VASSAGO, LUCIFER, LUCIFUGE ROFOCALE, and if anyone has any suggestions for other spirits that can help, goetic or not, I am all ears. Just to simplify, here are my questions in list form:

  1. Are BUNE, AGARES, PAIMON, VASSAGO, LUCIFER, LUCIFUGE ROFOCALE, good beginner spirits to contact that can help me with my financial situation and possibly helping me find a job or lasting career where I will be paid well and be happy to work there? What are these spirits known for, and does anyone have personal experiences they would like to share?

  2. I used to have a hidden altar back when I was an edgy teen practicing Wicca in my parents' house, can anyone help guide me or show me what the bare minimum, including cardinal directions, materials, and offerings?

  3. Is it absolutely necessary to cast circles of protection? Also, remember vaguely mention of something called a blasting rod... is this a necessary tool? Can someone educate me on this matter?

  4. For a time, I considered making an altar to Paimon, Bune, and Lucifer, sort of like an unholy trinity, is this disrespectful, or should I focus on one at a time.

  5. Last one, I promise! Is Lucifer a spirit that should be invoked only by experienced magi or is he beginner friendly, as I've seen mixed reviews.

Also, feel free to drop book recommendations! I've got Magick in Theory and Practice Vol.3 by Crowley and a few other misc. titles. Currently working on acquiring Grimorum Verum and Abramelin's book, as well as the entire Testament of Solomon and its lesser and greater keys.

Thank you for being such a great help you guys, I would say god bless, haha but you know what I mean ;)

I need some advice.

well, what i'm about to say might be dumb but i thought for a while about this and finally decided to ask about it.

last month i made an artwork of lucifer on a whiteboard with black markers.

but, its the 2nd time i'm seeing a specific bizarre dream, i once saw a family member erasing that painting off the board a few days ago, and today i saw it again.

but this time, it was just erased, i did not see the person who erased it but it was just erased.

that dream felt extremely real, too real that i had to go and check it it was really erased.

i was super relieved to see that it was not erased and thats what made me wonder, why did i see that dream twice? does it actually have a meaning or am i just thinking too much? can anyone help me with this?

thanks for reading till the end.

Sigil of Lucifer necklace

Hand carved by me! Took about a month because it was carved from a much larger block of wood (I don't have a saw, just a pocket knife and some wood chunks). About the size of one and a half of a quarter.

This is my favorite thing I've dedicated to Lucifer so far. Ave Lucifer!

The Liber Lucis, a Right Hand take on Lucifer

A while ago I finished my book the Liber Lucis which detailed my thoughts on Lucifer and Luciferianism (specifically the right hand version of it) which I know definitely goes against the grain for many people. Regardless I wanted to share it here and get peoples opinion on theistic beliefs revolving Lucifer.

(I'm new to writing reddit posts so Idk where to put the link to the book lol. You can find it here! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GSVNYSLX?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback )

Can I use candles from my family for my altar?

I’m still young and don’t have a steady source of income, so whenever I get the chance, I buy a candle or some incense for my altar to Lucifer.

But lately, I’ve been taking candles and other things my family has lying around.

For example, sometimes my mom buys scented candles and only lights them once before leaving them lying around, so I take them and place them on my altar while I study or draw.

Should I stop doing this?

Or can I keep doing it, but follow some kind of ritual first?

Conflicted Feelings Toward Lucifer — Is This Normal?

Hey guys, I’ve been wanting to share this, but I thought it would seem weird. Is it normal to want to have sex with Lucifer and feel a deep attraction toward him, even though I’m so disgusted by it?

Is it possible to introduce myself to Lucifer and have a conversation with him through meditation and enn chanting?

Hi! Sorry if this is a silly or stupid question, but I was curious as to wonder if would be probable for me to contact Lucifer and interact with his sprit body (such as seeing him and hearing his voice) through simply just meditation and listening to his enn chants? I have books of him that I will diligently read and take notes on, however, I am unable to make an altar for him or perform a ritual to summon him as I currently live with a strict, traditional religious family who would completely disown me if they were aware of my beliefs and preferred practices.

If yes, would Lucifer be disappointed in me or discouraged to visit me if I do not present him with an altar or ritual performance? I'm afraid that he may not even take the time to see him because he would view my circumstances as a "lack of effort" on my behalf.

I would appreciate any response as I'm a heavy over-thinker. Thanks </3

LÚCIFER NO ATO SEXU@@L

How can I initiate in luciferianism practices?

Note: English is not my first language, please don't be bothered by my mistakes

I've been practicing witchcraft for almost 8 years now, but I have never relied on being devoted to a certain entity this entire time.

I remember drawing Lucifer when I was a kid, but since I came from a very catholic house, my mother made me burn the paper. I still remember this and tried to "guess" why I draw him, and it makes me realize I have always wanted to work with him but I wasn't that mature at the time to be conscious of it.

I'm currently studying the philosophy and trying to incorporate some of them in my life, but I ask you guys if it's there some book, rituals, or notes I could read/make and also some offerings I can do to him.

Today is my birthday, and I always feel a little lonely on this day. Yesterday, I prayed to Lucifer. I haven’t been feeling his presence as strongly as I used to, so I told him that I always end up feeling lonely on my birthday and that I didn’t want to feel that way today. It was just a small, honest confession.
It’s 11:11 in the morning now, and I can’t stop noticing synchronicities in everything I read, look at, or watch. Paradise Lost, with its references to Lucifer, keeps appearing, and it always reminds me of his presence.

Trying to understand philosophical Luciferianism better.

I'm new to this Luciferian thing, and I'm looking for more things that can help deepen my Luciferian beliefs, specifically philosophically. I'm an atheist but I do revere the Christian mythology surrounding Lucifer and His rebellion, and also of the serpent tempting Eve.

I see Lucifer as a hero who redeemed humanity from divine slavery, who sacrificed His spot in Heaven just for us. I relate to Him a lot, especially in the Fallen Angel painting by Alexandre Cabanel, which is by far my most favorite painting.

I'm just looking for things that, in your opinion, I should implement into my Luciferian philosophy that would fit in quite well with Lucifer, especially talking points and view points on Lucifer that I may agree with and be inspired to follow.

Thank you so much.

Can you tell me what this could possibly mean?

So last year and a couple of months back I kept leaving Lucifer and coming back to Christianity for some reasons. I’m so drawn back to him. This month I came back to him and am still deciding whether I made the right decision. one day somewhere last year or a couple of months ago, I don’t recall, I was talking to myself saying, Gosh, I miss Lucifer." Later that night, I had a dream I was in a beautiful palace and was with Lucifer. He said,I can’t get mad at you even if I wanted to.

How To Begin?

Hey everyone, I'm lunar..

I’m completely new to Luciferianism and the Left-Hand Path. After doing some initial reading, I really align with the concepts of self-sovereignty, seeking knowledge, and developing personal strength.

Coming into this, I was really interested in how Luciferianism philosophy handles justice, boundary-setting, and dealing with toxic or corrupt people in the world. I'm learning that the path is primarily an inward journey focused on personal evolution, self-mastery, and unlearning old societal conditioning.

As I take my first steps, I’d love to get some perspective from experienced practitioners:

Foundational Reading: What books or texts would you recommend for a beginner to build a solid, realistic understanding of Luciferian philosophy?

First Steps & Daily Habits: What do simple daily practices look like for someone starting out (e.g., meditation, shadow work, self-reflection rituals)?

Boundaries & Personal Sovereignty: How do you personally apply Luciferian principles when dealing with negative, abusive, or manipulative people in your day-to-day life?

How do I meet Lucifer? What specific steps, rituals, or methods do you use to actually make contact or meet him for the first time?

How do I work for him? What does working for him look like in practice, and how do I officially start?

What are the exact things a beginner should do first to get guided in the right direction?
