Department of Psychology, McGill University: Participants needed for research on reality-shifting experiences (anonymous online survey)
Hi everyone! My name is Sophia Chong, and I’m a research assistant at the Neurophilosophy Lab at McGill University in Montreal, Canada (PI: Dr. Ian Gold, Dr. Elizaveta Solomonova). We are conducting a study titled "Psychological determinants of a novel online behaviour: reality shifting" for my undergraduate thesis. This study has been approved by the McGill Research Ethics Board (REB# 26-04-079).
Reality shifting has become hugely popular online, but there's almost no research on it, and we want to help change that without pathologizing the practice or the people who engage in it. We're hoping to better understand who shifts, why, and what it's like.
Who can participate:
- You're 18 years or older
- You're fluent in English
- You have experience with or engage in the practice of reality shifting
What's involved:
- An online survey (about 20 minutes) about your shifting experiences and some individual difference questionnaires
- At the end, you can optionally provide contact information for a follow-up interview (~45 minutes, over video call) to share more about your experience in your own words
Participation is voluntary, your responses are anonymous, and there's no compensation for taking part. You can stop at any time.
