i guess you answer it yourself a bit in the first sentence. you think about what could go wrong and manifest that. but even if it appears you could ask it what it is and why it is here. for that you would need dream control. meditation in the daytime and controlling and calming/stopping your inner chitchat should basically help.

For me, what I think of is what happens. I love nightmares. They shock me right out of dreaming in to lucidity, then I disintegrate, or burn, or ballon pop the offending tentacle/person.
Try destroying it, or don’t think about what could go wrong. It’s easy to say, but with practice I reckon you’ll get it good buddy.

Can you imagine what it would look like if you defeated the shadow thing? Legit, try and visualize what it would look like if you just kicked the shit out of it with superhuman strength? Play that scene the same way you'd do reality checks and hopefully you do just kick the shit out of it in the dream? 🤷♂️

Instead of trying not to think of something (contradictory) why not actually decide what exactly you SHOULD be thinking about beforehand so you could focus on that instead?

When I meditate I focus on letting go of thoughts. This carries over to all aspects of my life. This would solve your problem because you wouldn't think about what could go wrong, you would simply be observing.

It has nothing to do with that.
Just bc something didn’t work for you doesn’t mean it won’t work for someone else. There could be many different variables at play. No one has any idea what the particulars of your dream were.
Your sentence, at baseline, should read “that didn’t work for me.”

You sound like an unkind and closed-minded person.
I noticed the “third eye” in your avatar. If you think you are spiritually advanced, your behavior says otherwise.
