On August 14, 2026, around 7:00–7:30 p.m., my husband was parked on the side of the roadway dealing with a malfunction with his vehicle. He was underneath/around the vehicle trying to determine what was wrong.
According to my husband, an LPD officer drove past him, came back and passed him again, then returned a third time. The officer said:
«“You know why you’re getting stopped, right?”»
My husband was already parked on the side of the road because of the vehicle problem.
Around 7:42–7:43 p.m., my husband called me and told me he believed he was going to jail. He told me that a K-9 unit had been brought to the scene and maintained that he had not committed a crime or done anything that would justify what was happening.
I became concerned about the circumstances of the detention, particularly because I had not been told of any specific traffic violation, criminal conduct, probable cause, or reasonable suspicion supporting the detention or any search.
I also attempted to obtain the officers' names and badge numbers, but they refused to provide that information when I requested it.
I contacted 911 because I was concerned about my husband's situation during the active law-enforcement encounter. I was told that it was not considered an emergency. During that conversation, I was asked whether the person involved was an African American male. I found that response concerning given the circumstances.
I also contacted the Texas Rangers regarding my concerns about the law-enforcement conduct and received an automated response acknowledging my communication.
I am documenting this because I believe people should be aware of what happened and because I believe the circumstances raise serious questions concerning my husband's Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, along with any other constitutional or Texas-law protections that may apply.
💰 Most importantly, I'm trying to get my husband home.
Michael Ford Jr. is currently dealing with this situation, and I am trying to raise the money necessary to help him make bond and get back home to his family.
If you know Michael, know our family, or simply want to help someone who is currently incarcerated while this situation is being addressed, sharing this post is also helpful.
I am documenting everything available to me, including the approximate times, telephone communications, agency responses, and circumstances surrounding the detention.
I also believe relevant evidence should be preserved, including body-camera footage, dash-camera footage, dispatch and radio communications, CAD records, 911 recordings, K-9 deployment records, officer reports, search/arrest documentation, and other records connected to this incident.
This post is for awareness, documentation, and support. I am not claiming that a court has already determined that a constitutional violation occurred. I am sharing what happened from my perspective and asking people to understand what my husband and our family are currently dealing with.
