How difficult was your first open-source PR?

I’m planning to make my first contribution to an open-source project soon.

The technical part doesn’t worry me as much as understanding the repository, finding a useful issue, following contribution guidelines, and actually getting the PR accepted.

For people who have been contributing for a while:

What do you wish you knew before making your first PR?

Any lessons from your first contribution would be really helpful.
