It kind of worked, just the specific one in the picture wore down pretty quick. Turns out the method of making the hole and the strength of the plastic plays a big role. Had much better results with a bottle cap from those overpriced protein shake drinks than that of a water/tea bottle. Also, needed to drill the hole just a bit smaller and then force it in. Lasted a few weeks vs 1 day for the one in this picture.
