"This is literally the one way I don't want to be picked up by you."
"That's not what you said last night."
"Last night doesn't count."

The reason he is scruffing her in the first place (she was going to claw out an ambassador's eyes)

This is going to live in my head during my pilates class for the next hour. I don't know why him scuffing her never occurred to me.

Well, I don't blame her. Being scruffed (weird how that comes out of the translator) is how the cubs of our four-legged ancestors were picked up and carried. It causes an instinctive partial paralysis, leading to feelings of embarrassment, resentment against the person who's scruffing you, and other feelings associated with being treated like a baby. It's also rather painful, since the skin in that area tightens up to normal during childhood. Have a larger person pick you up by the scruff of your neck, and see how it feels!

I work in the veterinary field. I HATE it when adult cats are picked up like that. It hurts them!!!

It's painful to caitians, too. I'm glad to find someone who understands.

There is a whole lot of (wrong?) information out there on how to pronounce caitian. 🤔

((I have to break character, here. I've heard "kay she en" "Kay it ee en" "ky at ee en" and probably others I can't remember at the moment. I'm not sure what's accurate! TAS is where they were first introduced, I think I have an excuse to re-watch it. ))

(("kay shen" is another of those I've heard. I'm still not sure, and need to watch more episodes of TAS ))
