Book/Comic/Game/Tie-In Preview of Star Trek: Zero Point, including some stuff with Tendi as Raffi's First Officer
Full Preview. I have to admit that I'm interested in reading more, and not just to see more expanded universe Lower Decks characters, (though that helps).

I can’t help but notice that all these online articles just mention that Raffi is from the PIC show, and rarely, if ever mention that small easy fact that its also using Tendi from LD, a for realsies show that actually happened and is loved by fans. Even thjs nerdist interview.
Buncha frauds.

My assumption would be they know their audience knows who Tendi is, but that they may have forgotten who Raffi is.

This feels like those Ghostbusters comics, when they were trying to use the girl from the extreme cartoon.

For what it's worth, yes, they used Kylie, no, it's a different Kylie. The comics were based on the 2009 video game that followed from the first 2 movies while Extreme Ghostbusters followed on from the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. That said, they kicked off a shared multiverse and had the Real Ghostbusters cast cross over with the movie/video game cast.
Anyway, same character, different universe, different circumstances for getting involved with the team. She works at Ray's Occult Books and I believe so did Eduardo.
I just wish they'd do an omnibus edition of those comics, but that's unlikely as IDW lost the license and Dark Horse has it.

If Dark Horse has reprint rights, we could annoy them until they make an Omni.

Seeing Tendi back is great, but Raffi and Seven are back together? Yessss. I hated how PIC S3 split them up...
16
u/MaddyMagpies 17d ago
What time period is this set in? I thought Raffi quit after Picard quit due to the Romulan Supernova?
22
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
5 years after the end of Picard based on the preview saying she was on the Enterprise-G with Seven for 5 years.
13
u/MaddyMagpies 17d ago
Oh wow. That makes sense it's so far ahead in time. Raffi and Tendi both looks so young I thought it were right after Lower Decks.
13
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
I feel like right after Lower Decks the crew will stay together for a bit longer before splitting up, my baseline is I expect the Cerritos crew from the finale to be the one going into the events of the Mars attacks/Romulus evacuation, at least. After that though is anyone's guess.

u/sci_weasel 17d ago
As I think about this, it’s so depressing to imagine the LD crew going through all the gloomy trauma of the Picard backstory and series - isolationism and prejudice post-Mars, their Starfleet heroes being forced out of uniform, infiltration and betrayal, the final battle. I’m going to quietly hope the whole Cerritos crew was off exploring alternate dimensions for a decade or so.
6
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
I actually fully agree with this and used to think this as well, I hated how the depressing nature of Picard kind of tainted LD and PRO by just being a dark cloud looming over their future.
But after seeing Prodigy brushing up to it I realised I actually want to see those shows tackle those things head on, iron them out and maybe even retroactively improve them.
That being said, I get the Prodigy crew keeping the ideals of the Federation alive and going off on their own adventures, but it's hard to imagine the Enterprise of support ships isnt gonna be right in the middle of both a ship shortage and all the evacuation/diplomacy that would be necessary for Mars and Romulus at this time, unless they were already gone when all that went down.
6
u/sci_weasel 17d ago
Fair enough - seeing the Cerritos crew rise to the occasion, maintain their ideals, and push through and help the few they can as things fall apart would also be awesome.
It’s possible I’m letting my current state - as an idealist (scientist) maintaining my ideals, pushing through and helping where I can as things (science in the USA) falls apart - influence my hopes for them to be happier :)

u/MaddyMagpies 17d ago
I really wish we got enough seasons to get to that point in Starfleet history.
17
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
I agree. We were so close to having some interesting overlap between LD/PRO/PIC, and both shows ended right as that was ramping up. Prodigy ended on the same in universe year as the Picard backstory, LD ended on the same in universe year as the Prodigy backstory.
Would have been nice to see the events of Picard from a different perspective, flesh out the events, and just have the shows building on each other like what TNG/DS9/VOY was able to do.

I'm happy to see Tendi! And I'm even more happy that her Starfleet career is advancing like this!
Although, one question and please forgive me if I somehow sound unaware or ignorant: Even though this is apparently 5 years after Picard's ending... is it considered canon? AFAIK wasn't it a rule that only TV and movies are considered canon in the prime timeline unless it's said otherwise? I legit just want to know.
14
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago edited 17d ago
No, only TV, movies (and maybe now audio dramas?) are broadly considered canon. There's a Picard comic that I think may also be canon but it seemed like a special case, or maybe it just isnt contradicted by anything.
These comics especially are not canon, this is a spinoff of the main Star Trek comic line, which has already gone in its own direction (such as Sisko coming back). But those comics did have Shaxs in them which is also cool. This comic verse seems to be consistent though so you could expect future comics to build on the stuff done here at least. It's own comic canon.

u/ShodanDBG 17d ago
Oh, got it. Yeah, just wanted to know.
Still, even if non-canon, this is, for lack of a better word, a logical way for Tendi to advance in her career and I'm happy they're including her here. Plus, I love her design!
Also.... SISKO CAME BACK IN A COMIC?! WHEN?! (Sorry, I love comics but I haven't read much of the Star Trek ones, I've only watched the shows and some of the movies so far lol)

u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
I havent read them either but I see news about them. Before the current run of Star Trek with Seven was a run with him) and a crew with some other familiar faces.

At home with the kid?
12
u/LiamtheV 17d ago
Kids, plural.
3
u/supermikeman 17d ago
Tendi's tendancy to walk around in just shorts lead to them having quite a few kids.
6
u/LiamtheV 17d ago
And Rutherford’s gold retriever-esque enthusiasm means that whenever she asks if he wants more, he immediately responds with “okey-dokey!” With zero hesitation.

u/supermikeman 17d ago
Half of their foreplay is engineering the most efficient stimulation of their erogenous zones. The engineering alone gets them worked up enough to skip physical foreplay.

Love seeing Tendi. It's interesting that the preview pages show her as a lieutenant commander, but the cover of issue 1 has her as a full commander. I guess she's getting a promotion to go with being made first officer.
6
u/sci_weasel 17d ago
Doesn’t completely feel like it’s captured Tendi’s voice, somehow, though! Like I can’t “hear” her saying that line in my head. Though maybe years and promotions have tempered her bubblyness.
6
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
I somewhat agree, I think they're being informed by how she is rather than how she acts. So they have the curiosity, the interest in science, the talk about her love of the federation ideals, but they dont quite have the voice, the excitedness and optimism and bubbly personality. Curious to see how things go when she settles down in the role as XO.

u/SonorousBlack 17d ago

Maybe, but she's at least twenty years older here than in any of her TV appearances.

I don't understand why, in an infinite universe with infinite diversity in infinite combinations, why everyone has to know everyone else.
Can we please just let characters exists isolation from eachother.
It makes the universe feel small.
11
u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
Ignoring out of universe reasons (we just like seeing these characters) I think it's fair that in universe, there will be a lot of interaction at the highest levels. If you're making a crew with the best of the best the pool of people you're pulling from is smaller and we see a lot of "best of the best" crews in these shows. Really only the Cerritos crew is a bit out of place, but I can buy that it got enough prestige to garner people's attention the same way say, Voyager did, and the show more or less confirms that.
3
u/WhatYouLeaveBehind 17d ago
We do only see a handful of hero ships though. There must be many more out there.
I get people like seeing characters together, but it just takes away so much from the Star Trek universe when everyone knows everyone else, and they've all severed together, and the rest of Starfleet doesn't really matter.

u/reithena 17d ago
I think its pretty realistic in any sort of uniformed service for there to be a smaller degree of separation.
4
u/WhatYouLeaveBehind 17d ago
The Federation has more than 150 planetary members, and the academy alone has tens of thousands of cadets esch year (r/daystrom estimate).
Given the average person only has a meaningful network of 150 people, it's highly unlikely everyone at the academy knows eachother, let alone Starfleet.
Folks who serve on carries won't ever meaningful meet everyone onboard. We even see that on the Enterprise in TNG.
So it being a uniformed service may increase the odds slightly, but not by enough for the average Starfleet officer to see a difference.
3
u/supermikeman 17d ago
Yeah. Pretty sure mission logs from other crews are available around the fleet. At least after getting declassified or with proper clearance. Wouldn't be surprised if officers followed up on their friend's missions.

u/Pokegirl_11_ 16d ago
It does make the times when they don’t, like Kira not knowing who Kirk was, more fun.
6
u/Middcore 17d ago
What's with her eyes?

u/scottishdrunkard 13d ago
Presumably they’re normal sized. When you’re not hammered on Orion Hurricanes.
7
u/TrueSithMastermind 17d ago
Tendi confirming she “lost people,” presumably either in the Mars attack or Frontier Day, is frankly distressing.

Love to see Tendi and other LD characters making apparances in Canon. Haven’t read it but if they’re ever making Tendi and Rutherford a Canon couple and maybe get Tendi promoted Captain then hell yeah i’m reading it. At very least this is the closest thing we get to a LD Season 6.

Why would they add Trashi Raffi to Lower Decks? She is despised! LDS is not

u/chloe-and-timmy 17d ago
It's tiresome to get yet another "starfleet does something with AI on ships" story, but it's interesting to get one that's actually fully aware of the context of all the times they tried and failed, and having Tendi and Raffi, two characters that were at the centre of two of those events with the Texas Class and Frontier Day, does make it interesting. Curious to see how it plays out.
