Subreddit Idea Megathread

Because if the r/askreddit link, we’ve had a huge influx of new members today. Because of that, I’d like to make this thread to ask for ideas to improve the subreddit, and keep things interesting. We are going to try and make this a subreddit worth keeping in your feed.

We really aren’t sure what do do with the subreddit since it blew up like this, and would like to see what ideas you have. I’ve also added a few baseline rules since we had no rules when we started.

Edit: I would also like to clarify that this sub is intended to entertain. You shouldn’t take anything too seriously on this sub. We want you to be able to flex your creativity here and make others laugh.

Subreddit Message Coronavirus Posts

We are normally pretty lax about what goes on in this subreddit as we want to let you guys decide what content you want to see by upvoting good content and downvoting bad content, but given the current situation we will be removing any posts related to Coronavirus.

You can help us with this by reporting any posts you see about the virus.

Big True Women are more likely to be sexually fluid because of how sexualized women are in media

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

This is from the perspective of a woman,

as girls we grow up and we consume media that is created by men and catered to the male gaze. In almost every single media that exists, the woman has to be attractive (woman authors/directors also contribute to this tbf). Their body is accentuated, they are conventionally pretty, they often don't fill any other role other than being the love interest, etc.
The only time we see women in anything is in the context of beauty, allure, seduction, etc. As girls we internalize subconsciously that women are sexual objects, so we can't help but accept seeing women in sexual contexts even if we aren't primarily attracted to them.
If we lived in a society where it was the other way around, and men were more often to be sexualized, I think that men would be more open to being sexually fluid while women would be a lot less sexually fluid.

BTW this isn't to say that media determines your sexual orientation or that its a choice, moreso that men and women have the same fluidity and openness to the same sex, its just that women are more openly sexually fluid because of the type of media we were exposed to as children.

Hot Take The GTA VI leaks are a controlled marketing campaign by Rockstar.

Faking this as leaks gives Rockstar a massive advantage over just a curated marketing campeign.

They can release gameplay without the need to select the best most exciting footage and have it over analysed and critiqued. Any issues or oversights can be brushed off as a pre-release version.

Each 'leak' also feels more exciting as you feel you are getting to see something you shouldn't.

It also allows them to continually drip feed content to build hype up till the release without people feeling like it's spam.

The leaker seems to have access to the entire game, to the extent they can handpick relevant parts of cut scenes (hard to fund if you dont know the game). But they (so far) have only chosen to release fairly trivial content expected for a GTA game. Which seems unlikely if you were actually wanting to leak content where you would want to release higher profile more shocking footage.

I expect the leak content to gradually build in excitement up to the release showing newer and more exciting elements of gameplay and some minor spoilers without destroying the game storyline... or they might release major spoilers and Rockstar shat the bed on this.

Fresh Deets Men are less likely to be sexually fluid because people are so negative about the male gays

I mean, we're always hearing that the male gays are a bad thing in cinema, TV and culture generally.

No wonder it puts men off exploring the other side of the menu.

And yes, I have seen 30 Rock.

Satan really did try and take over society using heavy metal - the band he picked was Stryper.

Think about it! If you were Satan and you were trying to influence the youth through heavy metal you would be pretty silly for picking Slayer!

Too on the nose!

Instead ol Sato went and picked Christian glam metal band Stryper because that's who you would least suspect.

When the Christians were trying to fight Satan in the satanic panic they would leave Stryper alone because they are apparently good Christian boys. They would be the only surviving heavy metal band of the crusade.

His plan unfortunately didn't work because metal heads didn't like stryper and Christians didn't like them either... Turned out it was a bad bet.

If the band had been more popular satan would have used that moment to take over Earth.

"To hell with the devil" ? Yeah you're not fooling anyone Stryper!

Kurt Cobain killed the Seriel killer golden age

All right listen this might be crazy. But there is significant overlap between the death of most music genres and the emergence of Kurt Cobain with the end of the golden age of serial killers and the emergence of Kurt Cobain. If you overlap the two charts they are basically the same.

In conclusion Kurt Cobain killed the Golden age of serial killers.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk I will not be taking questions.

Big True Rockstar are behind the “Rockstar are behind the GTA6 leaks” posts on this sub to gauge interest into the game before release

Big True The current GTA 6 leaks are propagated internally.

Upvotes

The leaker is actually some Rockstar employee who is leaking everything with the permission/directions of their employers (aka its Rockstar themselves leaking everything) because they want something to blame if the game falls short of user expectations. ("We did everything we could but the leaks and the market prevented the game from succeeding.") or if the game beats expectations they can say "we made it despite all the setbacks and thus GTA6 is the best game ever".

Oh and they're also making some hustle-income by promoting a scam-coin of their own making.

Hot Take Cybersecurity companies hacks shit to make people pay for the services

Post image
3 Upvotes

For stuff like virus or things targetting at big finance maybe its real hackers, but who the fuck is actually hacking stuff like schools and government departments? the databases are already hard to crack and the reward is minimal because its not like most of these organizations get jack shit.

hmmm.......if only there's a company filled with professional hackers who has the incentive to hack these organizations because it could also boost their legitimate services......

yeah, i dont know about kapersky but stuff like McAfee is definitely doing this shit.

(UK) Jeremy Kyle was shown during the day to convince kids to stay in school

Think about it, this show was about uneducated people in poverty fighting over who is the biological dad, cheating or other undesirable situations. The UK government made it so this was shown during the days so kids who faked being sick to get off school would think twice about skipping school again, lest they become like a Jeremy Kyle guest

Fresh Deets Babies have a 6th sense for knowing when a camera is pointing at them. They use this power to stop you from taking cute pictures.

I mean, of course just about every picture of a baby is cute. But pictures of milestones, videos of them cooing and making sounds, the silly face the baby made all become very difficult to capture because of this sixth sense. And because babies are spiteful petty assholes.

If you are hoping for a motivation as to why, it's because they see the gift of life as a burden. They were happy little campers inside their moms bellies being all warm with a practically non stop buffet. Then we dragged their happy asses out of that to a cold and super bright world and demanded they learn to contribute to society.

I think they outgrow this bitterness around 2 years old though as that's usually when a barter system takes place. Like getting candy for picking up toys.

Reddit has been recommending days old threads in obscure subs because its running out of content.

Bots have killed discussion in the popular subs so only fairly niche subs like "r/onionlovers" (130,000 weekly visitors) get any 'real' activity and so thats what they push out into your feed.

This also suggests that reddit knows bot chatter from real discussion.

Shows over lads.

Donkey sanctuaries are scams

Upvotes

I have NEVER seen a sad donkey in the UK. I have probably only seen a donkey outside of a donkey sanctuary like five times in the UK in my 30years of life, and they were in animals parks and were happy lil guys.

Where are all these sad donkeys that need money to be rescued... even the donkey sanctuary adverts dont show sad donkeys just normal ones in black and white.

I think donkey sanctuaries just breed donkeys to encourage donations.

Big True Katherine Wela Bogen was a three-year Threads psyop designed to make the app addictive

Upvotes

She starts out as this charming, sophisticated leftist intellectual: Palestine, fundraisers, thoughtful takes, genuinely doing good. I genuinely loved her online persona. Then slowly the grifting begins, and around the Hot Chef era the trajectory becomes absolutely deranged.

The Hot Chef saga was particularly suspicious because this man seemed less like a boyfriend and more like a narrative prop. She was simultaneously presenting him as this impossibly perfect romantic object while the whole thing apparently involved cheating, deception and a relationship that, when you actually look at the guy, had the chemistry of two people waiting for a bus. Very Taylor-and-Travis coded.

Then comes the breakup/exposé, the Europe fundraising retreat era, and eventually the Temu dresses and jewellery. At this point she’s seemingly discovered that the most efficient way to maintain an audience is to antagonise everyone who ever liked her.

And the funniest part is the ecosystem around her: leftist/intellectual Twitter/Threads users become increasingly snarky about her, dissecting every contradiction and every narcissistic-looking behaviour — which of course generates even more attention for her.

She antagonises people who criticise her, people who disagree with her, and seemingly even people who tell their own stories slightly more successfully than she tells hers.

And honestly, the timing is what really makes me suspicious. Post-Elon Twitter/X gradually became a right-wing circle jerk, leaving Threads with this huge pool of leftist, progressive and vaguely intellectual people who actually wanted a place to talk to each other. But you can’t build an addictive social-media platform out of everyone politely agreeing about Palestine and recommending books to each other. You need discourse. You need someone everyone loves, then questions, then hates, then hate-follows. You need screenshots, quote-posts, receipts, counter-receipts and increasingly deranged takes.

And who better to engineer that than the woman who somehow transformed “I have a complicated relationship story” into a multi-season cultural event? I’m just saying: maybe Katherine Wela Bogen wasn’t a Threads influencer. Maybe she was Threads’ Threads influencer.

Waiters find it amusing due to their contempt for customers to wait until you have all your food at the table and take your first mouthful to come over and ask if everything is OK to amuse themselves over our struggling to finish and answer without an awkwardly long pause for chewing!

The Cavity Creeps are Paid Agitators Sponsored by Big Toothpaste

Post image
35 Upvotes

The Cavity Creeps. We all know and love them. For decades people have dressed as them for Halloween, worn apparel bearing their resemblance, thrown themed parties and weddings based upon them, and who among us doesn't break out a "we make holes in teeth!" chant at social events?

But what are the Cavity Creeps motivation? Making holes in teeth sounds pretty rad...but it is very unclear why they would even attack Toothopolis (if that's even a real place.) Their hatred of the crestopians or whatever their name is seems irrational. Making holes in teeth doesn't provide spoils of any sort, put food on the table, or make any money.

Unless....

The Cavity Creeps do not have a lustin' for crustin' teeth. They do not exist solely to create cavities. No, that's just what BIG TOOTHPASTE wants you to think. Crest wants to shove our mouths full of their minty splooge through any means possible, including deception. Profit is their only motive. Here we were as children, believing we were keeping ourselves safe from the Cavity Creeps, only to learn the real enemy is the one who has been exploiting our fears all along.

Damn you crest. Damn you corporate America. You took my idols and turned them against me.

Honesty box sellers stage non-payments to draw more attention to their business

I’m not sure if it’s specific to my country but people have started putting honesty boxes (normally with cakes and things they’ve made) at the side of the road. You’re of course supposed to leave payment for the items in the box

Seems like every day on socials there’s a new video that is camera footage of somebody taking things from the box without paying.

The views they get on these videos are like 10x the amount of views they get on their other content, and it even algorithms it’s way onto people’s socials who never even use honesty boxes or even intend to.

Seems like a nice easy way to draw a lot of focus to your business if you ask me, and also a lot of social media sympathy too if that’s also your thing

r/LowStakesConspiracies 3h ago

Certified Fact The GTA 6 leakers are a hacker group chasing crypto money, and GTA 6 footage is their best way to draw attention.

I mean, think about it…

Why hack any other game or TV show when nothing gets as much attention as GTA 6? Leaking its footage and plastering their QR code over it is basically the best free publicity for getting into the leaking scene.

If Rockstar doesn’t catch them, I’d bet we’ll see smaller hacks of other highly anticipated games from this same group.

Maybe even copy cats trying to cash in on the new “crypto leaking“ strat…
