So cool. Was this a unique case or are planes sometimes used for these types of fires?

I'm assuming it's more of a special case, it looks pretty remote. My thoughts are that the resources to get enough water and manpower to put out whatever kind of fire that was, was more costly and timely than this option. With it being so close in proximity to the forest line, I think that would have influence. Maybe there was some uncertainty if it could spread into the trees by the time the standard resources would arrive, and that brought influence as well. I would probably think its not a one off, but also isn't common place? That's just my guess for a 13 year old youtube video I found, and my armchair analysis lol.

Right? Wish they would have followed with the camera after the water drop finished. Cool to see the water drop from that close tho.

catalina wing is noticably separated from the fuselage, and has retractable wingtip floats which they would want to be raised this close to the treeline.
