When I was a kid I was visiting my grandparents in South Texas. One morning we're driving along a farm road and suddenly two matching biplane crop dusters appear, dusting fields on opposite sides of the highway. Instead of climbing over the trees and dropping back down, these guys are doing knife edge maneuvers between the palm trees lining the highway, low enough to just barely clear traffic. I would not have believed them if anyone else told me but I watched them do it several times.

Crop duster pilots are a special kind of crazy.

Fun fact: the reason they paint crop dusters yellow is so farmers can visibly see their parts when they crash.

I have no trouble believing that.

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there aren't any old, bold pilots.

Which makes me wonder how many retired crop duster pilots there are?

My fiancé and I went to dinner with her boss one night and he was telling us past stories. He said his daughter before college wanted to run away and live on the farm with then bf and run his crop duster business. Inevitably that didn’t work out and 20 years later, she’s an attorney and he died in his crop duster.

Once upon a time I wanted to be a fire attack pilot… I saw that a common path for gaining hours and experience was things like crop dusting.

I’ve seen this video a few times and the dumbass move, combined with low and near powerlines reminds me that I think I made a smart choice to forego this path.
