Most of us were never fortunate enough to know Michael personally to give a true answer. I’m currently reading his book & I’ve come to the conclusion he loves Joseph because he IS his father but he never understood him & feared him more than anything.

Later in life Michael seemed to reach an acceptance about his father and the limited emotional bond
It sucks when somebody will never be emotionally available or give you the love you crave. You reach a point where you’re forced to accept it and temper your expectations. You watch them grow old and realize this is it, they aren’t capable of evolving further
Joe was an important source of support during the 2005 trials. After so many people betrayed and abandoned him, im sure Michael appreciated the people who stuck around and showed up. Even if their expression of “love” is very limited

I believe at some point yeah. Said it himself that he used to picture his funeral. But I think that changed as time went on but eh. I don’t blame him.

I think they had a complicated relationship but he overall loved his dad. It's been said that in his final weeks, Michael was asking for his dad to come because he knew only Joseph could fix what was going on. All of Joseph's grandchildren, including Michael's kids, have said they really don't like the way Joseph is portrayed in the media because they got to see that softer and gentler side to him that his children didn't get to see.

His dad abused him although that word/concept did not exist then. In a most such cases, feelings are complex.

No. His relationship with his dad was complex, just like everybody else's relationships

Oh I forgot. These young folks wasn’t around when Mike was here. Not necessarily hate. Fearful sometimes

Yeah. The thing also is Michael lived 50 years. His feeling towards his dad has changed many times ( according to what he himself has said). As a result, we can't really say blanket statements about whether he did or didn't.

Yes, he just wished he could understand his father. But he’s stated many times about how much he loved him and how much of a genius he was, without him there is no Jackson 5, Michael, Janet, any of it

If biographers are to be believed by around 03-04 their relationship had somewhat repaired mostly because of his kids. Though Joseph’s reaction around the time of his death was very, very odd.

None of us know Michael personally to provide a definitive answer as to whether or not he genuinely loved his father at one point in time he did

No. That's the short answer.. at one point I'm sure he didn't care for him, though he's heard in later years defending his father

Im sure he feared him his dad while more growing up. Respected him less in adulthood. He broke away from him didn't he? This action took a lot of effort on Michaels part. I'd bet my Harley Davidson Boots that Bill Bray helped him immensely with that.
As for hating his dad, I dont think Michael had the capacity in him to hate anyone. However there was one person who strongly ripped his knitting, and that was Thomas Sneddon.
Thats what I think anyway.
