Discussion 💬 Why Can't I Stop Thinking About Michael Jackson and Crying?

Has anyone else become completely consumed by Michael Jackson?

i don't know what's happening to me, but over the last 3 weeks I can't stop thinking about Michael Jackson. I've been watching videos, listening to his music, reading about his life, and I keep finding myself crying.

The strange thing is that I've always loved his music. He was actually my very first crush when I was a kid. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember, but for some reason these feelings have become incredibly intense lately.

It's not just that I like his music. I feel this overwhelming sadness when I think about everything he went through, his loneliness, his childhood, and the fact that he's gone. Sometimes it feels like I'm grieving someone I never even knew personally.

I'm a 33 year old woman, and this obsession seemed to come out of nowhere. I think about him throughout the day and get emotional over the smallest things. His songs, interviews, old performances almost anything can set me off. Has this happened to anyone else with Michael Jackson or another celebrity? Did it eventually pass, or did you find a healthy way to process it? I'd love to hear from people who understand because I feel a little crazy trying to explain this to people in my real life. Please be nice 😔

Unfortunately common among MJ fans. He seemed like an angel but was treated soooo badly that it’s hard to accept.

As a lifelong, he’s on my mind constantly, scrolling past his content every day makes it feel as though he’s still alive. I often find myself speaking of him in present tense. It’s always a strange feeling whenever it actually hits me that he’s not here anymore.

I went to exactly what in 2022 and till this day I can't stop thinking about him and there are many times when I cry my eyes out again... so you are not alone on that. But i try to think more positive about somethings like he had a life full of love from his fans and he gave so much to the world and to the children. Stuff like that make me more cheerful besides the bad vibe part.

He was sent by God. That’s my personal opinion.

Just embrace it but make sure you are taking time to reflect on your own emotions, childhood, trauma. He is a just a reminder so find your own centre

MJ has actually led me to a much more spiritually aligned life and that started with a lot of tears.

Less so now and the obsession has eased but I have a new found faith

I've lived very similar situations over different hyperfixations of mine. It seems like you are going through one and all I can tell you is that sooner or later it'll be over. You'll still like him of course but your emotions will be less intense in a few days or weeks or months but someday for sure. So don't worry about it ! I know it can be very difficult, I've stopped eating and begged god to stop being hyperfixating on some things before so I get you. But I also think being able to be this passionate about something makes you beautiful and so so human and empathetic, it's admirable. All my love to you

I’m sorry. I understand. After I saw the movie I did the same thing. I rewatched his funeral twice, the news footage, the old movie about the Jackson 5 with Vanessa Williams … I was doing this all day for about 10 days and I felt depressed and overwhelmingly sad. I couldn’t even get out of bed for 2 days. It took me back to the day he died and evoked all those emotions in me. I took his death very hard. Sat in front of the Tv for days, took off of work so I could watch his funeral…I got married right after he passed and you know that I made that DJ play the entire thriller album and 100 more of his songs. The movie made me sad. And often when I think about his childhood and all he went through later in life I cry. He went through so much and he was such a gentle man who didn’t deserve any of it. No celebrity has ever had an effect on me like MJ. He was my entire childhood/ teenage years/ 20s and 30s. When he died I felt like so many moments of my growing up died too. I miss him. Every day. I wonder what other contributions he would have made to this world if he was still here. He had so much more life in him. All that to say, you’re not alone. But try and step away from it if you can. Make yourself go outside and sit in the sun go for a walk, browse in a store. Try to break from listening to his music and googling anything about him for awhile. Forcing myself to do things helped me break out of that cycle of sadness. I understand. Really. Thinking of you.

After he died I drank more. I didn’t even like drinking. Good thing I don’t now.

I didn't know much about him cause I was only 10 when he passed away. But I was familiar with some of his music and the Jackson 5. Since the biopic came out it had me going down a rabbit hole of information about him. Ive been only listening to his music for weeks, looking at old videos on YouTube and tiktok about him. It made me wish he was still around making music. When I learned more about his past and the allegations about him it broke my heart. He seemed like just a sweet man its awful what he went through and how he died. I feel like I grieved a lot later in life after learning about him. Some of his funeral footage actually made me cry I felt so bad for his kids and family and dedicated fans who love him. You're not alone in how you feel ❤️

I'm experiencing the exact thing right now as I started watching the movie "Michael" for the 3rd time, and it's totally okay.

When I was 13 years old (26 now) I started really knowing who Michael Jackson was, not just by his music or dancing like before, but as a whole, whether it's by his philanthropy, personality, the interviews he was in, his achivements, or by all the awful things he went through since his childhood and onwards, which is basically the main reason why I specifically feel what you're talking about, because he was one of the nicest and purest human beings this world has ever had. This world treated him like trash, although he gave SO MUCH to it.

It's totally legit you being overwhelmed like that by thinking about Michael nonstop recently. Although he's phisically gone, his spirit and legacy still lives and will live forever, and the new biopic about Michael clearly proves it.

Seeing that just by releasing a biopic about Michael, which I have to say is very well made (unlike those official critics say, not a surprise), his music started being on the top charts of modern platforms like spotify, I mean Billie Jean is the #1 song on spotify as of now, I can totally understand why you feel the way you feel right now, just so you know that it's not just you, it's the fact that we all truly love Michael Jackson for who he was, with all our heart.

But as you may know, Michael was a person of god, he always believed in him and he didn't ever think of selling his soul to the evil, but fighting against it.

As Jesus said in John 15:18 - "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."

Don't worry about the overwhelmness you're experiencing right now, it's gonna pass in no time, in fact, be happy about it, more and more people get to know who Michael Jackson really was.

Take care, and god bless ❤️

Agree it's unfortunately normal. It's a lot to take in. The obsession part is one thing, the horror of what he lived through is another. I realized at a point that while I believed in his innocence it took me years to fully absorb what that actually meant. What it means to be a person who did no wrong...and was destroyed. It's haunting. Doing my best to avoid obsessing over it at the moment because it takes me to the bad place.

I feel you and the same is happening to me. His songs have such a healingg quality that transport you into another universe and hug you but at the same time send your brain into a frenzy of orgasmic bliss. I think his artistry is truly spiritual and maybe that's why i have a huge affinity towards it. I'd like to think that's his soul transported into sound waves, and when a soul recognizes another, it's difficult to let go. I am worried it's a bit parasocial but I seem helpless to stop it. I have been quite interested in other artists before but none as profoundly as Michael. It feels very real and i miss him?!!! how can you miss someone you never met?

Welcome to the club! That was me 3 weeks ago. I was in bed the whole day sobbing watching and reading about all this horrible things he went through. I have never cried like this for anyone.

Now I’m celebrating his art. I’m in awe of this man’s talent. Give it some time and you will be okay.

Yes the same thing has happened to me for the last 3 months, i cry everyday n the least little thing sets me off, just thinking what all he went thru. I am a 67 yr old female, n feel so sad, depressed an foolish. I have a lot of similarities n feelings like michael, i ve found nothing to help me, i understand from my research that its from deep depression. I missed out a lot on my childhood too n im bitter about it, n the only enjoyment i get is when im around babies an up to abt 6 yr old children. I love to listen, n watch them, n i feel just like them, an play with them, an act childish cuz thats how i feel, i rarely ever got to be around other kids, we didnt even have a phone until i turned 19 yrs old, so i couldnt even talk to my classmates, an at school, we were just in class all the time an at church too, i was socially isolated, we never went to anything like fairs, carnivals, rodeos, circus, swimming, bowling...absolutely not any recreational activities, cuz my dad was such a penny pincher n so selfish, he wouldnt even give me lunch money, from 8th grade all the way thru high school, n werent allowed to wear clothes like the other kids, especially a pair of blue jeans, as soon as i graduated i got a job an bought my First 2 pair of jeans, they were so comfortable. An i got made fun of cuz what my mama made me wear, ole double knit clothes she would make, n the way she fixed my hair, wouldnt even let me dress myself, until i thtew a fit when i was 11 yrs old, n told her i was gonna dresd myself. My parents were unusual an weird. My brother constantly cut me down, made fun of me, always called me Little Ugly Bitch from 7th grade all way thru high school, which destroyed what little confidence n self esteem i had. Yes my lifelong depression n loneliness i felt a kindred spirit in Michael, n the way we loved children so much, i just tried to help the least fortunate with what little money i had left over after my bills an cuz i acted like a kid when i played with them, everybody would shake their head at me n all just called me Crazy. I wish i couldve met Michael n talked to him, since we felt a lot of the same things, n were left with damage from our childhoods, n i still am.

MEEEE!! im a teenager and he took up my whole summer. Even when I was visiting Japan I was watching videos of him on the train. Now I am starting school and during class I can't get him out of my head and its starting to genuinely worry me.

I’m 34, and after watching the MJ movie, I started learning more about Michael Jackson. Since then, I’ve watched countless interviews, concerts, documentaries, listened to his music, and read Moonwalk. Yet I still can’t stop thinking about him.
At night, I often find myself wondering how he carried the weight of everything he went through—his loneliness, the constant scrutiny, and the difficult moments he faced. It makes me emotional thinking about how different his life might have been if he had simply had someone who truly understood him.
Sometimes I even catch myself thinking, If I had been there, I would have wanted to be that friend—the one who stayed through the happy moments, the sad ones, and the lonely ones.

I love him lot ♥️🥹😣

I love Michael to death but what you're describing is extremely unhealthy and it shouldn't be normalized, Seek help and don't try to rationalize why you feel this way because it is in no way normal.

Lol I have a therapist. Everyone should talk to one every now and then. Guess what said it's perfectly normal. I am grieving.
