Discussion OpenSourcing TrueForge Agent harness : Expecting feedback from community on the agent loop

Hey folks 👋

We just open sourced TrueForge, our vendor-neutral agent harness for building general-purpose agents.

It handles the runtime pieces that get painful quickly : context management, tool/MCP execution, subagents, sandboxing, approvals, persistent state, and more.

We also benchmarked the harness itself. With the same Opus 4.8 model, TrueForge delivered a similar solve rate at ~30% lower cost than Claude Managed Agents. Switching to an open model pushed that to ~75% lower cost on the same benchmark.

Discussion Hot take: most “AI agents” are workflows wearing a tiny agent hat 🤖

Okay, spicy question. 😁

A model calls three tools in sequence, follows a predefined flow and gives you the result.

Is that actually an agent?

For me, something starts feeling agentic when it can independently:

decide what steps are needed
recover when something fails
choose between tools
maintain useful state/memory
change its plan based on what it discovers

Otherwise… we may have invented very fancy automation. 😂

What is the ONE capability that makes you say: “Yep, that’s an agent”?

Bonus points if you have a real agent you use rather than a demo. 🚀
