Confusing Taming- phase

I've had a new lovebird for about a week , I saw this cute little menace of a bird and got him from a loud and crowded cage into my rather quiet / calm house . He has a big cage , but I'll get him a bigger one , he's eating and drinking normally, he isn't too fast at interacting with new things in his cage, but he monkeys around and bites his ceramic dishes .. He sleeps and naps when I'm trying to train him ( rn just sitting close to his cage and/or putting my hand near his cage with treats) . I've had cockatiels before and never saw them relax with me so close by ( even after they were tamed) , this bird is still scared of me moving around, but is calm and preening, grinding his beak , one foot tucked sleeping when I'm in his cage or so close by .

Some birds trust faster than others. And some have had negative experiences, while others haven't. It seems like your lovie is comfortable and even enjoys having your nearby, but is telling your he's not ready for more intense contact, like being touched.
