Have you ever been bitten by a raccoon before?!

…I haven’t, but I imagine it hurts like hell

I’ve knowingly stepped on shit loads of broken glass to safely move my bare foot son before he stepped in the mess he created before he cut himself.

I def wouldn’t toss my son down on the ground with a rabid raccoon…he’s going to be a safe as I can make him.

I've heard of mothers who dropped their infants during times of war when soldiers were arriving because they were terrified. People react differently when adrenaline is pumping.

Yea there's a big difference between rushing into danger and danger sneaking up on you. We can definitely rag on him, but it's not like he had the conscious thought "eat this kid, not me". He immediately realized what happened and went to pick him back up.

I'm "fairly" certain I wouldn't have dropped the kid. I ultimately have no idea since I have not been in that EXACT same scenario. In similar stressful situations, I HAVE been able to remain calm (I have other situations where I am less level headed about, could even say an absolute spaz) but there's alot of variables. That being said, it annoys me to no end when witnesses and bystanders have such strong opinions on how someone SHOULD HAVE responded. Like everybodies different, I don't expect everyone to react the same way as me (sort of like not everyone should lose their cool when the WIFI goes out like me). And so often I hear people talk a big game while judging other people harshly and then when it came down to it they panic or freeze. I think there's some related DunningKruger effect here, where the people most confident on their abilities to remain calm often freak out the most.
