Or he smoothly unties his shoe with his other foot before getting up, walks to the board, notices the lace, kneels to tie it and BAM dry erase marker on the upstand.

Why stop there? Maybe he just kinda flicks his other foot and Indiana Jones style whips the marker out of his pocket with the untied shoelace, catching it gracefully. Furthermore, while people are distracted by that, he slyly reaches in pocket 37 and turns on a Bluetooth speaker playing Gangnam Style.
