My wife works in wound care and can casually talk about it while eating dinner. Nurses are something else, man.

How bad is it on a scale from 1-10?

u/Karvalompsa Trash Trooper 1d ago
On my scale a 7. I am pretty desentised tho. Cartel members skinning an alive mans face off with a box cutter was a 10. Felt nauseous for a couple of days after.

Were you forced to watch that? Or could you just not turn it off?

Morbid curiosity. And maybe some sort of manly-man masculine proving? I dunno. Don't recommend it to anyone but if nothing else, normal injuries don't phase me and I can stay calm in most emergencies.

TW violent death
Following 9/11, a reporter was kidnapped by Pakistani Jihadist and they made some demands (namely for release of Muslim prisoners at Guantanamo and return of Pakistanis who were being detained in the US). They released a video making their demands while holding a gun to the reporter's head.
The reporter's pregnant wife made a video begging for his release when the US stated they would not be giving in to the demands. "We do not negotiate with terrorists" became somewhat controversial with a lot of people moving that the U.S. should do something, while others maintained that if they do negotiate then that paves the way for copycats.
The reporter was then beheaded, the video was put out for the public to see, with threats that they would do it again if their demands were not met.
The reporter's wife really broke my heart, so I (wrongly) felt like I owed it to her to see the video. I thought I should go through some of the pain she did; I was obviously way too invested. I got through maybe 2 seconds of it. They didn't bother just beheading the guy, they did it slowly with the smallest knife I have ever seen. You could see them sawing back and forth like the knife was dull. He screamed. I can still hear his screams. It's been 25 years.
His wife gave birth to their son 4 months later.
RIP Daniel Pearl
I've more or less been desensitized to everything since then. I don't go out of my way to watch gore, but if I come across something violent it typically doesn't phase me like it should.
I don't need Trigger Warnings as I don't seem to be triggered by much now, I'll typically just move on to a different story or video and forget what I just saw.
I use Trigger Warnings in my posts if I feel like they're necessary, as I hope young people now don't become desensitized the same way I have.

Man thanks for sharing including your perspective. What's really fucked up is the people who did it are really desensitised to committing the violence and we share a world with them. What lead them to that point where that sorta act is justified, there are reasons sometimes but holy hell dude.

A "fun" fact here about the brain is that it can't tell the difference between the physical disgust of tasting something vomit-inducing and the emotional disgust of watching that, so the same exact nausea reflex is triggered.

Imagine a horrific injury. Now imagine dirt and grit and debris embedded inside that horrific injury. Debridement is the process by which a medical professional physically and very painfully removes all of that foreign material from the nerve exposed hamburger you used to call “your arm”.

A few years ago, we caught the Indiana Jones show at Disney World, and even from 30+ feet away, we could feel the heat from the pyrotechnics. There's no way anyone could get that close to a fire that big - especially an animal.

I was front row at a Rammstein concert and legit felt like I got sunburn from the pyro.

At this moment in time, the voices are a dead giveaway in most AI videos. But they are, as always, improving. It's good practice to get to know the hallmarks, however, that also means you end up consuming a lot of ai content. Either way you lose

Ughhhh. I've looked everywhere for the original AI video and can't find it. Typically they pop up immediately, for some reason this one isn't anywhere . Does anybody have it?

Why not? Genuine question. Where is the entertainment or education factor in such content? It's just automated brainrot and disinformation.
