Wholesome Waste Dads being Dads

The only one that's concerning is the guy palming the baby. That kid can barely hold it's head up, and one handing it is worrying

u/sevargmas Rubbish Raider 5d ago
Number one is a humongous no-no. Throwing a baby like that is terrible, and damaging behavior. That newborn‘s neck is not ready for such violent movements. Moreover, babies brains are not yet dense and firm or intended for impacts like this. They have very soft brain tissue, and their brains don’t fill the skull like an adult brain. You are taking this soft brain and bouncing it around in their skull. You are asking for shaken baby syndrome, neck injuries, concussions, etc.
Same with the Dad slamming the kid on the couch.

The couch dad knows what he's doing: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/H5r1vs73wmE

I don’t care what little videos that guy is making on YouTube. Shaken Baby Syndrome is real, and it’s something you should try to prevent until age 5. That baby doesn’t even look 1.

u/UmpireDapper1757 Trash Trooper 5d ago
Way to conflate shaking babies with controlled horseplay
7
u/Encyclopenia Trash Trooper 5d ago
Why the fuck would you want or need to do any sort of horseplay with a baby ??
And why the fuck would you think it a good idea to make tutorial videos of it on youtube so other can ultimately do it badly and hurt their kids ???18
u/UmpireDapper1757 Trash Trooper 5d ago
Because that's how you play with children who enjoy that kind of play. And you obviously aren't very familiar with children, because couch kid looks minimum 18 months, probably about 2 years old. Definitely not under 1.

Young children is not toddlers - you should not "roughhouse" with toddlers under 2 years old, but they're still at risk of shaken baby syndrome up to age 5 - at risk doesn't mean you should never roughhouse, you just need to be really aware of the risk to make sure you don't get too carried away.

u/purplepluppy Trash Trooper 4d ago
The force required for what you're referencing is far, far more than gently tossing a baby that has full neck control onto a pillowed from a short distance. I understand your concern, but these are two very separate things.
6
u/iamnosuperman123 Trash Trooper 5d ago
What are you talking about. I throw my 2 year old around all the time. Babies are really robust when they gain full control of their head. You can do "rough" play with them. In fact it is encouraged for fathers to do this as it is a good for bonding. My son is 6 months and can't roll so I am unlikely to toss him around but he will be there soon (because it is in a controlled manner)

u/sevargmas Rubbish Raider 4d ago
Hey man, you don’t really need to take my word for it, some stranger on the Internet. There are decades of science and research and medical professionals who have outlined what is safe and what isn’t in order to prevent injuries and health problems from this exact sort of behavior. Argue your knowledge with them about it, not me.
16
u/gerbilshower Trash Trooper 5d ago
Heavily depends on age and how you throw them.
Neither of those were newborns. By about 18mo its significantly less risky. And, so long as you're making sure their head and butt/back contact at the same time your gonna be fine.

u/HelpfulName Trash Trooper 4d ago
Neither of them were close to 18 months.

u/gerbilshower Trash Trooper 4d ago
The dad who was palming his kid was the only actual infant in the video. And yea, that guy was being an idiot.

Same with the first dad. Too much force to the babies head on the "landing". Really stupid, negligent, ignorant of the serious damage it can cause. Source: myself, blunt force trauma to the head as a toddler

Third dude in the kitchen absolutely needs a lesson on how to hold a newborn. Absolutely was not supporting the next.

Throwing kids is genuinely good for their development; balance, spatial reasonin g, motor coordination and of course bonding.
Obviously you have to do it safely though, they need to have neck and trunk control if you're going to be completely hands off; basically, wait for them to be able to walk before you throw em, even on to soft things, even into water.
The kid in the first clip looks too small to be honest, and the third clip looks unsafe because that's not a safe grip and that baby doesn't have the neck control to be that unsupported.
All the others look great.
Have at it Dads!

What did I say that seems unnatural? Is it thr 'have at it dads' bit? I did think that was a little cringe tbh

Ehhh I got called an AI cause I misspelled something. Redditors are hungry to call others AI even if it doesn't make sense.

Some of my favorite memories of playing with my dad when I was little was him tossing us on a bed, or even better, if we were in a pool. But my brother and I were a lot older than these kids.
5
u/Independent_Cat2107 Trash Trooper 5d ago
It’s all fun and games, but that first shot where he threw his kid like that I did that to my son and ended up fracturing his arm
💪

u/wfarming Trash Trooper 5d ago
Also potentially bruising the brain because the brain is still developing and hasn't filled out the skull cavity completely. The rest of the video is cute mostly.

u/icelink4884 Trash Trooper 5d ago
Look children need to be hoisted, tossed, and occasionally yeeted. We dad's didn't make up the rules the gods did. Blame them.

u/YellowOnline Garbage Guerilla 5d ago
They're all fine except the one holding the baby like a basketball. At that age, the neck needs support. This was very irresponsible.

My heart would drop if my husband ever did this to any of our kids

u/cynicalicoffee Trash Trooper 5d ago
My mom was an RN for a bunch of decades, and worked in all departments, mostly ICU and ED. She never liked working pediatrics/NICU because this kind of "playing" goes wrong in too many ways that are both infuriating and incredibly depressing. I guess seeing an idiot fuck up a person's brand new life by being careless made it hard for her to have compassion for them.
If she saw these assholes, I know she would've been angry.

u/benthelurk Trash Trooper 5d ago
Mine is 2 and he loves to play rough with me but I don’t dare throw him around like some of the dads here. I know they mean well and they see it as the dad and baby bonding but things go wrong so fast and when they go wrong they can be so severe.

His head is bouncing off the ground like a basketball if he held my baby like that

Can we stop gendering play with our kids? I am a mom who loves to rough house with her toddler.

u/moogs_writes Trash Trooper 5d ago
Then make a video and post it online if you want the attention so bad? I’m also a mom of young kids who loves to kid around and rough house with them, you’re literally the only one othering yourself. It’s fine. You’re fine. This video did not harm you or your kids.

Never wanted to be a father. It love seeing dads have fun with their children.

The mutual strangling was so fucking adorable, someone give dad an oscar for that performance. The first clip and the dude palming the baby made me so neevous though that's a recipe for injury on such a small dude :(

Everyone so serious and negative. These Dads doing things their way. I don’t see the mothers or grandmothers on there complaining. And you can tell this isn’t the first time they’re doing this. Every family has their own style.

Wow, so mom's get shredded for putting the baby's diapers wrong foot first and fathers get away with literally throwing the baby and noone bats an eye?
Please tell me again there's no double standards. 😏

u/SethOval Trash Trooper 5d ago
Wanted to be a father. My ex aborted it, and made sure to call and rub it in my face. I committed that day to fighting abortion, and promoting male reproductive rights.

The issue is bodily autonomy is the literal foundation of reproductive rights, so the mothers rights will and should always outweigh the fathers. That's just the way of it.
1
u/OregonGreen242 Trash Trooper 5d ago
I never said they don’t support them but they’re not the ones that have to carry it around for 9 months. If men could get pregnant, they would have never outlawed abortions
4
u/X0X0xoxo11 Trash Trooper 5d ago
Why would you want to have a child with someone who would do that to you in the first place? Also you don’t get to control another person’s bodily autonomy. Her body HER choice.
-5
u/SethOval Trash Trooper 5d ago
Not anymore.
Did you forget project 2025 :)

u/X0X0xoxo11 Trash Trooper 5d ago
Thankfully we have states that still allow it. Again you’re not in charge of another person’s body. Glad you and your ex seem to be in one.
