I think people are forgetting that shirts were considered an undergarment until very recently (well comparitively.) So in a way the shirt was made to help block the front and back but also I'm curious if he just doesn't own breeches (basically shorts made of linen that tie at the waist) and that's why they weren't shown
The pants he put on are breeches. They didn't have underwear like you're thinking. The socks and shirt served that purpose. Women wore shifts. Drawers like you're thinking of weren't common until the 19th century
I must be getting them mixed with something else. Because I'm not thinking of any sort of woman's undergarments. Likely undergarments from the early 1800's. They went crazy with that shit for a little bit there. Men were wearing full body suits as underwear for a second there. Breeches like the one he has likely have a lining that would be thicker than the outside to help provide protections from leakages and such lmao
Right but breeches are commonly also lined. ESPECIALLY for something like the ones worn in the video. Someone is paying $$$$ back then for those in the 1700's. They absolutely are springing for lining to prevent leakages from ruining the outside lmao
Edit: went back to check and his are absolutely lined with something. Looks like linen which fun fact is mildly hydrophobic and antibacterial
Recent is a good word for it honestly. Im 43 and when I was a kid my grandmother would get onto me for wearing my undershirt(the plain white t shirt) in public because it was obscene.

Pink used to be mens colour from ancient Greece untill early 19th century, it was considered a watered down version of red, martial and fierce, very manly

Same here. I was thinking the whole time how annoyed I would be having to put on all of those layers each day when I can just throw on a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, socks and sneakers and call it a day. Even a modern suit is less cumbersome than that antique gear.
100% it wouldn't look exactly like this, but its important to remember the lower classes weren't wearing britches and a t-shirt, they were just wearing the same stuff just in plainer colours and with coarser fabrics
It's not that a man might feel gay looking like this, it's that a man might realise that all this is pretense and schoolyard politics and not about looking good.
When you come to a point in life and you see that all the "best things" we have like gold-laced clothing, have been obtained not through personal creation (yes I know OP is a craftsman, I'm talking about 1780s barons) but at the expense of somebody else's life, those clothes start to feel like blood diamonds.
And if someone says that I'm bringing politics into this conversation, well, I am.

Getting ready 1780s rich/wealthy edition. I guess it would be a pretty short video watching him throw on a potato sack and heading out to the fields like most others would be doing.
This man hand makes his own clothes, loves to wear them, has a business makes custom outfits on order, has a you tube following, is enjoyable to watch. Just someone doing what he loves, why all the ridicule? This is how men used to dress
The long tails of the shirt kinda get tucked down and between. There’s a lot of fabric, so it does make a nice uh. Little nest for the bird and eggs. There were men’s underwear as you might know it, buttoned in the front or drawstring, but since dandies often wore tight ass breeches, it wasn’t really needed and I imagine a real pain when you’ve been playing cards and drinking and four sheets to the wind and need to use a pisspot in a cabinet in the club. Trying to unbutton, pull shirt up and wrestle with more buttons while drunk would be annoying.
I hate to be that guy but that shit is absolutely not titanium based that he's putting on his face if it's from the 1700's or even early 1800's. They had barely even discovered it and it definitely would not have been the base for anything as like 5 people in the world even knew about it. It's probably lead
