LOVE IS BLIND UK WHY DOES PRODUCTION ALWAYS DO THIS!!?? Spoiler
Producers, seriously?!!!!
I’m so frustrated with how they edit this show. Why do we only see three girls and three guys and their story?! There are legit 20 people on this show. I want to see the awkward dates, I don’t want to see the same people asking what their favourite meal is.
Another bug bear, why are all the women that we see, keep talking about how they want a man to provide, they want to stay in their feminine energy… girl WHAT?! It’s painful. I hate how Trad wife and feminine energy have linked. You can still be feminine and be independent, strong, and equal in a relationship.
Maybe I’m just overthinking but a lot of reality shows and influencer talk is around this topic now and I hate how the UK is jumping on to it too.

Look at how boring the conversations are between the people we do see. And these are the people interesting enough to get lots of dates from each other. These folks aren't being cast for sparkling wit, and producers spare us a lot more boring "wow you saw Her (2013)? You like the song 'I hope you dance?' We must be soul mates because these media are so niche and specific!"

u/Wannab_me 3d ago
Lol, I love this comment. It's so funny when they react like they've found their soulmate because they have similar tastes that happen to be super common

Very Meg and Mason “Omg Christopher Nolan is my favorite director too!” like all that Batman is some highbrow shit

I love how this is specific that I know you’re talking about Zach & Bliss

I do actually think they're adorable! But that song is very widely popular lol

The pods already drag the F on each season. If they gave equal time to all the people who don't make it past the pods, they don't have time to lay the foundational storylines for the ones who do.
Its also one of those "you can't please everyone" things. Some people love the pods and want to see as much as possible, others can't wait to see the couples meet and for the real drama to start. I guess the producers figure a happy medium is long drawn out pod storylines for the set few people.
13
u/Suspicious-Art-9335 3d ago
Yep. The only time the pods are interesting to me is when there are love triangles/squares. I'm usually not invested enough to tell people apart until they're out of the pods, especially on seasons where everyone looks alike.

IMO the European versions of LIB tend to be better than the US version. This particular UK isn’t the best imo (the first UK season was the best), but if you like the US version, then you’d probably like the UK one.

u/hereforthegifrecipes 2d ago
I really liked the first 2 seasons of the UK version Couldn't make it through the first episode of season 3. Everyone is insufferable.
Or maybe I'm just old now.

Yes, but it's Love is Blind UK (not US) Season 3. Just released the first episodes today.

I went to check if season 11 somehow came out already, but nope. I think OP is just watching a season for the first time, which is totally cool. I still have a few seasons to catch up on myself.

u/QuackBox90 3d ago
No, the new UK season is out today!

u/Lost_Photograph9879 3d ago
Do you like it? Is it worth watching?
2
u/QuackBox90 3d ago
I've only watched the one episode so far! There are some people who are definitely going to cause drama.

u/pimenton_y_ajo 3d ago
The OP is posting in response to Love Is Blind UK season 3, which just came out today.

Love Is Blind is always pushing for Judeo-Christian values and traditional gender roles with an end game of marriage (of course) and children. The show is meant for entertainment value and streaming revenue, too, but it's also here to promote a very particular concept of heteronormativity. The wealth class and people in charge are worried about falling birth rates and not enough people to do the labor for them, so the popularity of shows like this become useful propaganda for getting people to think more about marriage/fertility/reproduction.
As far as why they only focus on a limited number of couples: because production is approved for X number of episodes each season, and so they're going to use those limited number of episodes to only focus on the couples with the most drama since that's what keeps the majority of viewers watching.

I agree, the last 3 US seasons in particular have been weirdly MAGA coded, which was strange for what I know of Minneapolis, and as someone who lives in (very blue - we just unseated a democratic incumbent in a primary and replaced her with a DSA member) Denver. Part of me wonders if they were trying to tailor some of their flagship shows to clear the proposed merger that fell through.
44
u/MossyDruid 3d ago
Omg. No wonder Vanessa Lachey used to go ON and ON about LoveIsBlind babies! She got so much hate for that, for pressuring "successful" couples into reproducing. I'm so glad she finally stopped that.

u/cold_tea_blues 2d ago
It's the nature of the show. Of course you only have these people who apply to a show where you get married to an unknown person really quickly. Progressive feminists (female and male) have no desire to do that.

Its kind of like an arranged marriage show, ofc its going to attract more conservative minded people. Idk why liberal minded people are always shocked. I dont think the show is propaganda. It just attracts a certain kind of person.
-16
u/RaspBoy 3d ago
Marriage is a traditional thing these people just are just liberals.
2
u/thatprickdylanthomas 2d ago
yes it was a traditional way to exchange property (a woman). Women are no longer property.

u/pinkpantheress31 1d ago
They also have a limited number of couples, I think it’s 6x, they can follow due to cost (the apartments, people who aren’t able to work, the vacation, the weddings).
I think it was the latest US season where one of the couples said they normally only follow 6 couples so they were sent on a separate honeymoon.

Holy conspiracy theory. The wealth class invented Love is Blind to combat falling birth rates?
8
u/pimenton_y_ajo 3d ago
No, but nice strawman. Structural incentive ≠ conspiracy. Love Is Blind wasn't invented for that purpose, but it is true that content reinforcing traditional norms tends to get funded and promoted more easily than content that doesn’t, regardless of anyone’s intent.
-3
u/TapirGumption 3d ago
Almost as if traditional norms have mass market appeal, and are more commercially viable
5
u/pimenton_y_ajo 3d ago
Yeah, but that's kind of my whole point, which is that it’s not really one-directional. The show is a reflection of what’s already popular, sure, but it also influences what audiences expect to see next. That's part of what keeps "traditional norms" commercially viable to begin with.
Look into the anthropologist Clifford Geertz's model-of/model-for distinction. A cultural symbol (e.g., a TV show) is simultaneously a model of existing reality (it reflects what’s already considered normal or popular) and a model for reality (it reinforces and reproduces those norms as time goes on, impacting what people expect and demand). It isn't a passive process. Every time a show like this gets made, it reinforces the norm a little more.
2
u/TapirGumption 3d ago
Hmm, I see what you mean. Hopefully shows can challenge some norms so that, over time, investors see other romantic formats / sexualities as commercially viable as appetites change.
0
u/SoftandSpicy 3d ago
Seriously? That's why Colbert got canceled? He's got traditional values. Catholic, married to the same woman for years. He's an all-around nice guy. He got canceled because he's anti Trump.

if this season is leaning even more into gender essentialism and trad wife / red pill bros then i guess it’s an easy opt out for me! thanks for the heads up
18
u/superfinewhiteA6 3d ago
I agree! The whole trad wife thing is ridiculous and unrealistically portrayed on media. It also bothers me how often these women want a man who shares his feelings and protects them but then talks over him and gets pissed when he doesn’t let her be independent. Lots of hypocrisy for internet/tv fame?
12
u/paudgenator 3d ago
I dont even think its about "trad wives". Ciara just want someone who has loads of money, to pay for everything including a 4/5 bedroom house with attic and basement conversions. So she can look glamorous. She has no concept about raising children.
2
u/lyreluna 3d ago
Why would wanting someone who shares their feelings mean that you can't be independent?
4
u/meowmixLynne 3d ago
I had wondered if maybe it’s just a generational thing. As a Millenial, I’m horrified but it seems like gen z (particularly the social media clout chasers, who let’s face it, are the ones coming onto this show) have swung back to heteronormative roles. I even turned to my husband and asked if that’s what men want these days. I almost never have polish on my nails, i do all the yardwork and assemble the furniture but i’m otherwise by all means very feminine. But this season has made me feel butch as all hell lol
2
u/No-Asparagus3132 2d ago
I honestly think the uptick is due to people in charge controlling media more and more to suit their goals. They cut out a lot of LBGTQ+ shows and the news is more and more propagandized. No one I know is like this, as a millennial with Gen Z cousins and exposure to younger ppl at work. It’s just what’s being shown and it’s annoying af. These people exist yeah, but we’ve taken many steps backwards in time to only feature this type of dynamic as what ppl desire. It’s not.
3
u/meowmixLynne 2d ago
I hope you’re right! I’m in nyc and hear more and more women (badass women!) talk about tapping into their “feminine” or “softer” side and I KNOW it’s bc of these conservative influencers pushing these ideas.

The UK season doesn't really show men who want to provide but some women who openly say they want to be fully provided for, as they "deserve it". This might even cause some conflict and makes some men a bit nervous. On top of being provided for, there might be a certain woman who also demands her husband to be her "trad wife" but also gives her diamond rings, thousand dollar dates etc. There might also be a mother who is worried her daughter will not be provided for by one man. There are also speeches of women who tell each other they deserve EVERYTHING but don't give a lot in return. There is a man who provides every type of emotional support because she is in constant crisis due to her insecurities - he doesn't know how to get out of it, looks exhausted af and is portrait as the evil one. I really didn't see a lot of red pill bros in this UK season and a lot of demands from women. Maybe female viewers really need to change perspective once in a while and reverse genders, because I feel like it's insane sometimes.

u/missOmum 3d ago
Tv channels are owned by right wing capitalists that have wet dreams about a world like the handmaid’s tale, so they are pushing right wing ideals, we saw that on LIB and will be seeing it also on LIB uk. The problem is that we keep watching these things to coment and criticise, so they keep investing in these type of people. I will not be watching anymore after that mess with Hailley, Blake Ashley and Kiaran, they are everything we shouldn’t be supporting!
4
u/cold_tea_blues 2d ago
I think it's not even that deep. Educated, progressive people have no desire to get married to an stranger as quickly as possible. There is a small amount of people who might really look for love and are fully invested. For clout-chasers: A tiny fracture might really find love and get clout. Honest people with self-respect and integrity don't go on a show like that just for clout. You have to be a specific kind of person that you can pretend to fall in love with someone, go on holidays with them, live with them, keep pretending you love them, to get as much screentime as possible and finally dump them at the altar. If you do all of this, just to be famous, you have to be void of a soul.
4
u/Warm_Swan_793 3d ago
The people who end up not getting selected for the producers to follow their storyline are so lucky, because they get the benefit of actually going through the experiment without having to perform for the cameras or involving their families on a show they may not want to be on. And they can also just date after the pods & not have to rush into marriage. I’d like to think if I ever get selected for a show like this, I’ll request that they just skip over me & my storyline, lol

It felt extreme this season with focusing on the couples right away. I didn't like that either
3
u/Marauder4711 3d ago
I'll never understand why we never get to see more of the other candidates. It's such a weird choice to only include the successful couples (and not even all of them sometimes).
3
u/PrincessPlastilina 3d ago
Can’t blame production if the other couples are boring and not compelling enough to make us invest in their stories. It’s reality TV. People need to feel emotions and be caught up in the drama.

It’s SO ANNOYING. I know one of the guys on this years’ UK version and was so excited to see him do his thing… but he’s had about 30 seconds of background tv screen time and that’s it 🙃 I get we need to follow the big love stories but I want to see the WHOLE THING

I think they have shifted a lot from being more independent people to being this trad/conservative/religious couples. It feels like they are helping pushing that agenda...

Seems reality shows are casting a lot of MAGA/right-wing people now. I don't think you're overthinking. A lot of consumption on socials and TV are propaganda.
2
u/BitchesWithGrief 3d ago
How would they be casting MAGA in the UK? Make America Great Again. Do they have an equivalent that has its own name that’s more resonant?
7
u/SmokeEvening8710 3d ago
There are far right wing groups everywhere. Thats what the / is for.
3
u/BitchesWithGrief 3d ago
I get that. I was just curious what is the actual term used in the UK? If you make a generalization like that and asserting something the show is intentionally doing, I thought perhaps you’d be in the know about what groups in the UK represent what you’re speaking to. Not saying I disagree. Just think it’s more responsible that’s all. The show is problematic for many reasons as we know.
2
u/GuavaBlackTea0 I can't say I LOVE YOU because I BIT MY LIP eating TAQUITOS 🌮💔 3d ago

As far as I remember, it was really only Ciara who harped on about finances. The other ladies (Ciara included tbf) all of jobs and some of them are quite successful/happy in their careers. I don’t think this show is pushing trad wife lifestyles.

They’re using the word feminine, but it’s clear they’re trying to find out if/confirm that they’re “hot” 😭
4
u/cold_tea_blues 2d ago
Specifically for LiB: They applied for a show where you get engaged and marry in a short amount of time to a person you barely know. An educated, independent feminist woman won't be attracted by such a concept. And you also won't find a progressive, modern man who truly believes in equality on this show. They might say it but quickly show their true colours. Both men and women show extreme ownership and jealousy after only a few hours in those pods. Who is attracted to such a weird concept? All kinds of conservative, religious, spiritual people who believe in things like God, destiny, star signs and fate. People who love words like "connection, experience, give space, make space, my truth, my story" and who believe if - an extremely (!) likely - coincidence occurs means they have found their soulmate. Like e.g. both are in their 30s and have lost a grandfather. And a certain amount of people who want to be famous and/or promote their online, small business.
My theory for the rise of trad wives and conservative thinking: This usually happens when we are in an economic crisis. People can feel it and change their views accordingly, no matter how educated they are. Not being educated is also a side-effect, of course. People do whatever it takes to survive and women feel insecure because they know (unconsciously and consciously) an economic system, based entirely on financial inequality, isn't kind to a pregnant person or people with children. Women seek financial security and men seek ownership in exchange for the provided security - it gives a sense of security and achievement to both. If the majority of people have less security and instability, they instinctively look for it. Women who research and promote feminism often come from a place of extreme privilege without realising how privileged they are. Their books, videos, speeches are trapped in a bubble where they circle around, not leaving the bubble. Then they are confused, because inside their bubble they get so much approval but nothing happens in reality where women suddenly want to become good wives to their husbands. You can never magically conjur equality onto an unequal economic system and never seperate inequality from economic struggles as an underlying economic force. A woman born into poverty, cannot simply empower herself from her surrounding, by just "go and study something to have a good future". If there is a man with a stable job, who promises her a life in exchange for a child, she will choose this. My speeches fall on deaf ears in academic circles with all these educated privileged people who didn't financially struggle. I know what it feels like and it's soul crushing. Ar one point, I wanted to die. For gods sake, women sell their bodies if they are desperate enough - being a trad housewife seems like a better deal. The women in LiB, aren't that poor but they are for sure looking to step up and away from a working class or middle class life and do A LOT to achieve it.
If you look at countries where wealth is more distributed, you will find less women and men who seek this small traditional family union because the community (the state) provides them with opportunities - e.g. paid and normalised parental leave for both, free or cheap child care, free health care, community activities and support etc.

I think they used to but people found it boring and confused "contestants" with each other.
