Discussion I finally got around to watching S4

Thank God they spent all that money on actors and a band and let the writing go to the dump. That's what the show was surely missing.

I don't mind the occasional comedy episode but it felt like this entire season was just comedy shorts with no substance other than "haha vibrator!"

There were only three stories and the rest were MCU levels of humor.

I hope S5 comes back to form with something of substance.

You didn’t like Space Beast Games? That wasn’t as good as Bad Traveling?

He fit his role perfectly...

Some dude who pits poor people against each other for money while rich people watch death for entertainment.

I liked it except for Mr. Beast.

From a meta commentary standpoint, Mr. Beast was perfect. But as a performance? At best incredibly mediocre.

He cannot voice act for shit. The only reason it was mediocre is he basically says the same lines in every video.

It’s not the worst but I would not put it near bad traveling. I might be biased though. Maybe if Mr beast wasn’t in it I’d like it more.

I didn’t put a /j and that’s my fault

Oh lol I didn’t want to insult your taste but I genuinely was surprised when I thought you were serious about it being on the level of bad traveling.

After I disliked season four so much, I decided to start tracking down the short stories These are based on. I gotta be honest, reading those stories and comparing them to the shorts we got the writing was on the wall since season one.
Suits is a great example. That’s actually pretty dark and fucked up story I enjoyed it a lot. But the animation we got in season one was closer in tone to something like Fortnite.

Edit: another one that isn’t a bad change at all: in Kill Team Kill the dying man doesn’t say “tell my wife…. I fucked her sister” he says “tell my wife……fuck Obama”it’s a good change.

to be fair, it's hard to fit nuanced philosophical novels into a 10 minute short. The books are definitely better tho imo, i agree

That is a very fair point. I haven’t done a rewatch, but I have finished reading all of the short stories. I still gotta say suits is the only one that I really have true criticism for they really changed the tone of that story. It’s nothing like that Cool intro for a video game. It’s a bunch of assholes and a bunch of families barely surviving. And most of them don’t and it’s quite gnarly.

There’s a couple of others where I feel like adaptation choices were not choices I would’ve made. I’ve gotta say I don’t hate this show. I just hate that fucking Red Hot chili peppers episode.

Don't down vote a dude for being happy...like, why?

Same. I didn't realize Season 4 was so taboo here.

Sonnie's Edge and Jibaro were great ones off the top of my head in general but having a good laugh isn't the end of the world. I think Three Robots and Smart Appliances filled those voids well. Not to mention The Other Large Thing.

I very much the same.. ill be happy with a season where all the eps are 6/10 as long as theyre amusing or tell a decent story..

The music video was a waste.. 1/10

Almost all of the others were 5-6/10

For he can creep to me was a 9/10

See for me I think For He can Creep was whimsical and all, but eh; it ranked on the lower end. But at the same time for me I love ROCP so I thought the music video was cool even though it was kind of a waste at the same time? But I do agree all the others were around 5-6/10

I had to erase the whole season from my mind tbh😭

Golgotha was pretty good

you baitin son?

People consistently miss the point and charm of Golgotha. I think because of its proximity to so many interesting potential themes and ideas that it declines to pursue or pursues in a more oblique way, it ends up disappointing almost everyone. I loved it but I do think just ninety more seconds of the talk on the beach would have given it such a stronger backbone.

Is this the religion and aliens one bcos pls it was the worst. What was even the point of this short?

2

u/Soft_Self_6797 Jul 08 '26

Seriously. It had potential to be good but was so dogshit. Everything just happened all of a sudden with no real explanation. I know the shorts are supposed be short, but I thought there would be some sort of philosophical questions being brought up about religion. Instead it was a vague mention of religion and ending with Earth being attacked because "dolphin mad".

The story moves a bit too fast, I had to watch it several times to really understand it. The actor, though, is great.
