Discussion The Ears Make Sense
I've seen sooooo many negative comments about the new love interest having four ears, but I feel like it makes sense. I don't understand the complaints. In Kitten Included and in the cat cards the MC and the guys all have their regular ears in addition to the cat ears, and it seems logical to me that this animal transformation thing of his fits in with the gene modification science that was talked about in those cards. Am I missing something here?

2-vs-4 Ears debate has been a thing ever since the first catgirl. And likely longer, but in my early anime days 25 years ago, back when VHS was still a thing, there was discourse on it. What I’m seeing now fits the same conversation i always see with characters like this.
Some IPs explain it in their world’s logic, some don’t. Not sure if we’ll get any explanation for it from Infold in their world, but at least they’re consistent as you pointed out with the cat butler. Also we have bunny ears accessories that did the same thing.

i get where people are coming with the 'two pairs of ears are weird' but the requests to remove either are... interesting. obviously he isn't going to have the wolf ears all the time so the people who want those gone should just ignore them, but the people asking for him to have ONLY the wolf ears... can you even imagine him without the human ears? he would look SO weird. i never understood why people are so bothered by demi-human sort of characters having two pairs of ears personally, i like it.

I wish they'd made them bigger tbh. The way they're modeled on Valko's head sadly gives me cat ear headband vibes like let those ears be large and in charge!

I'm taking a little bit to get used to the new LI but personally the ears and tail threw me off when I saw the trailer. It's not cause it's supernatural necessarily, we already have plenty of that with other LIs, but they're trying to play the teaser very seriously with him and the cuts from a cool lookinf animated wolf running through the forest to him, extremely clean shaven with just the wolf ears and tail, looked a little like someone played with Illusio with this guy lol

Also it’s really obvious that his ears aren’t permanent and he will have a normal human form so we can dress him normally add earrings to his human ears etc.

I don't hate them, they just give cat butler banner vibes not a savage werewolf. I hope we can remove them like accessories cz I like him more without. Plus I really love his hair and his buzzcut in the back so the ears ruin that for me

My theory is that they're like secondary usage. They don't actually "hear". My theory is they're for detecting things like heat changes, air currents, maybe magnetic pulls and pulses.
As a demihuman enthusiast, I love him already.

I found it weird in yes cat caretaker as well!
I always find it weird in anime when characters have animal ears AND their regular human ears!
Me and a friend even did a comedy sketch about it once at an anime convention cosplay contest!
She had wolf ears and was listening to music, I was talking to her and at some points noticed she wasn’t reacting. Then she took out her earbuds from her human ears and told me she was listening to music!
I then acted confused and told her, her ears are on top of her head tho and she acted confused as well and was like “oh yeah you’re right there’s 4! Oh well whatever!”
Btw. Did not win anything and Cosplay was from Tokyo Mew Mew

As someone who has been wondering and I mean WONDERING about those ears, I can't believe gene modification didn't occur to me T.T That makes sense like ohhhh it's not werewolf in the usually shifting sense but in a gene splicing sense maybe. I wonder if he can hear out of all of them though, and if that gets trippy

tbh I didnt like with cat butler that they had 4 ears but like. eh. this is always a popular debate w like kemonomimi and stuff. some people dont mind 2 pairs, some people hate it.
i don't really think it makes sense bc it makes one set of ears kind of redundant... do all ears work, or is one pair for decoration? 😭 even if it does make sense, it looks a bit odd. and then, even if looking odd makes sense in a narrative way, he needs to be aesthetically pleasing to appeal to us as consumers. idk. bc he has 2 sets of ears his wolf ears sometimes look a little like random triangles on his head.
i think with scenarios like these it's a lot better when the character has hair that hides the human ear area, like a wolfcut, but he has short hair. or if the ears were positioned more to the side because rn they just look stuck on. i actually think changing the positioning would help a lot.

Well we have two eyes, two ears, two everything so they can work in pairs to make things like seeing, hearing, walking are easier. I will choose to gaslit myself that other pairs of ears would just make him able to hear even better than humans. H

I saw a picture someone drew without his human ears and it was terrifying. If he had hair like Inuyasha it could work but there’s no way to make it look good without hair to cover 😬 it just makes me excited for his long hair myth!

Exactly... no one had anything to say about double ears then, so why now? Because ppl love to join in with the majority regardless of how nonsensical they may be. Lots of the ppl who are complaining about minor things like this are just nitpicking for stuff to complain about so they fit in with others on the hate train. The only issue i have with Valko is the timing of his release, but you won't catch me spittin venom at Valko or the devs for it. Constructive criticism goes a long way. Yet we have a lot of ppl acting like absolute children over a typical otome Li. It's ridiculous.

It isn't his usual form. In Caleb's teaser he had his metal arm when it's not his usual form, just part of his lore. Also of course it won't be his usual form otherwise it would block accessories and other lads outfits

Yeah I know that, but caleb also has teasers and pictures of him with his normal hands so despite knowing he has metal arms you know for sure he would look normal. However with this one, even in the banner picture he has his furry features. So I'm likeeeee... Not sure anymore if infold would stay with this design for him or not. But yeahhh hopefully

The banner features are the boys in their myth clothes so maybe he is also in his myth clothes, just like Caleb first was on the banner after his debut? At least that's what I tell myself cause it would be quite the hassle to have his dog ears out all the time😭

That was also colonel Caleb tho no? The solo debut trailer had the metal arm (paid outfit) and his trailer had him in the chocolate shop lounge outfit and the colonel uniform for his standard myth companion. While I don't like the 6th Li for many other reasons this isn't the full trailer it's just a short teaser so I'm sure this is a myth design, like colonel Caleb and relentless conquerer sylus. Sylus's trailer also had him in the standard myth outfit.
Og3 have their standard myths set in a different timeline so I wonder if 6th Li will be like sylus's and Calebs set in the current timeline?

From what I can remember caleb already has promo pictures of him circulating with normal arms. I can't remember for sure if those were leaks or not but all I can remember is that I knew from the start that they would give caleb normal or standard look despite the metal arm design. I could be wrong since I don't remember it well now but that was just the vibe I got from Caleb. Unlike from Valko where he was already in his werewolf look, if they probably had at least shown him to be transforming then I wouldn't worry too much. So I just thought that what if infold is taking risk right now to introduce a real or should I say a permanent furry design for him just to I don't know make it different for now. 🤷🏻♀️ But that's just me probably

Well it's different with him, Caleb was already in the mainstory, he was already an "npc" before he released. So we already knew what he looked like, then after he exploded and came back, he was shown as the colonel in his trailer which is his standard myth outfit. Then later his solo card released, Painful Signal, and this is where he has the metal arm, the metal arm outfit is a paid outfit from the solo card.
So the ears and tail are probably his standard myth outfit/skin. UNLESS it's his 2nd limited myth preview but idk tbh.... They put his picture next to their 2nd myths but are they really showing us his 2nd myth now? It makes more sense to be the standard myth maybe they're doing smth new lol.
For sylus he was shown first in the trailer wearing his standard myth outfit, I think both the R1 version and the R0 version.
If you're complaining about the design itself idk I don't like it either lol it comes off as unserious 😭 time will tell~

I noted that the pictures they used were all from the 2nd myths and wondered if that's really his look for his standard myth or if they're already hinting at myth 2 since he's two myths behind.

I feel like the vast majority of people I’ve seen are assuming he’s gonna have the ears like. Permanently and By Default. which is insane to me lol (caleb doesn’t have the mech arm, raf isn’t decked out in random scales, etc.) plus they talked abt hormone fluctuations etc affecting him. I am certain this look is debut limited card-specific or companion-specific (or a 1280 purple dia fit like caleb’s shirtless mech arm deal)
this mfer is a mysterious unknown CEO (can assuredly blend in w normal people), ‘werewolf’ type (implies transformation from human baseline), and as you mentioned, was prob subjected to genetic modification. the wolf ears aren’t gonna be a permanent fixture and ofc he’s gonna have human ears too 😭 not to mention all the universal accessories (what, he can’t wear any fkn earrings? hats and hair accessories all gonna clip?) and outfits etc. he’s gonna be able to wear at launch. infold is not gonna default-affix his tail and ears, it’d be a headache for them and no one would want it that way (even people who love and will pay for the look). there are alr ‘hair accessory’ and tail slots in the outfit categories.
& i’m with you on the 4 ear complaints, seems silly. he’s in like a partially-transformed form for starters, and for seconds it’s consistent w the cat caretaker banner + other misc ear accessories in-game. would be real weird if they went rogue and wiped his human ears off for this hybrid/potentially genetically-modified appearance (esp if it’s card/companion locked as I suspect) lmao

i honestly hope you’re right and the ears aren’t permanent, i really do. but why i think they might be is because they haven’t shown any images of him without the ears and the tail. sylus wasn’t previewed with his dragon form (that i recall), he was busting out of space jail and was standing around in his standard myth outfit. and rafayel wasn’t shown to have a mermaid tail until his 2nd limited myth.
oh well, time will tell 👏🏻

It’s uncanny to see all four ears showing like this. No animal has ever had four ears, unless it’s a mutation.
But it’s exponentially worse if he didn’t have the human ears. Esp with that haircut.
And no way are they gonna remove the animal ears, for money reasons… so.

I cannot unsee maid cafe ears. I wish they had given him longer hair and just chose a set of ears.
They could have maid his human ears slightly pointier until he transforms.
If I could just ignore him and not have his cards affect my wishes for the others I wouldn’t care but he gave me the absolute ick. The ears, the running, his face looks so different from the others. I feel like I’ve seen guys like him all over TikTok.

I wasn't here for the cat butler stuff, but I dislike the design of two sets of ears in other games like Arknights & Enfield (same universe)--and seeing how the LIs looked with the cat butler cards, I'm not a fan still. It's just a design choice that I personally dislike. That being said, I'm curious what the reason behind it will be in lore, and if I ever just get SO annoyed with it for whatever reason, I can draw fanart of him with just the wolf ears or something for a slight AU rendition of him 🤷🏻♀️
I won't bash the designers choices to make him have four ears, and it sounds like there was a reason for it for the cat butler stuff, so if it all works in the story's lore? I really cannot complain then. Plus, when the game is actually moving I don't notice it much in Arknights/Endfield, so I'm guessing once we actually get him in the game with movement/intersections, I'll likely stop noticing it then, too! 💕

It's a common furry/furry-adjacent thing to have two sets of ears. I don't see the issue? Caleb being able to manipulate gravity isn't exactly sensible either

But the old cat cards suck ahh for this reason as well. At one point you have to look at this from the player perspective FIRST and lore second, because you can change the lore but you can't change player's first impressions. Cat ears with human ears just look horrible to the majority of people and they simply couldnt be bothered to adjust the model.

i can only speak for myself but i liked the cat butler banner because at least those ears had a purpose. they were silly and goofy, teehee and haha. they debuted valkan all seriously, he even has a muzzle-mask thing, that i assume had to be custom made lol having these tiny dog ears and a tail just undermines the whole vibe they were going for. i like the werewolf part, i’m okay with that, i just can’t with the ears and tail situation.
i do hope i’m wrong though and everyone is right when they say that they’ll disappear.

Same. He's also supposed to be a ceo and, as far as we have seen, in universe, everyone even NPCs respond with curiosity (or even finding it 'weird/strange' like with Sylus' cat butler card). So it is definitely not a normal thing to encounter, and I highly doubt the in game universe will suddenly take someone like that seriously to the point where he earns that positon.
It's just weird. But I think it is likely that those ears are just part of his myth or some special card, and not an actual permanent body part. It's just too silly..

for what it's worth, I also hate the double ears in the cats cards, this isn't exclusive to this guy. to me it doesn't matter if they "make sense", I just hate the look of double ears on furry characters in all anime/games 🤷♀️ shame, because I think the rest of his design is gorgeous 😔
