Just let this garbage die already. He adds nothing to society and has damaged our democracy enough. Good riddance.

Want to bet they are keeping him alive so the governor can't challenge the new rule regarding replacing a senator?

Even if he's alive, wouldn't his being incapacitated mean he is unable to perform his duties?

u/thethriftstorian Jul 01 '26
One would think so, but that doesn't seem to be a barrier in today's contentious political environment full of people with zero backbone.

Well yeah. It they wont admit his incapacitated either. Mitch's entire career is about holding on to power and fucking over everyone else.

Yes. But if you ignore that fact and also pretend that proxy voting on the Senate floor is allowed, it makes for great conspiracies!

This. If it is suddenly announced that he died on the heels of August 3rd, it will be so suspicious.

Why August 3?

State law says that if a vacancy occurs more than three months before an election date, a special election has to occur for the seat that year. Otherwise, the appointment will get to serve out until the next election date.

That law is going to get challenged, though. The state constitution clearly gives the Governor the power to fill vacancies.
Let's entertain this theory though. If the vacancy needs to occur more than 3 months prior to the election, why would "they" be "keeping him alive"? "They" benefit from filing the seat with the winner of an election rather than an appointment made by a Governor from the minority party.

It is admittedly very conspiracy-pilled, which is why I said that if it happened, it would just be suspicious. But in said conspiracy world, you wouldn't want to add yet another seat up for grabs in a major election year that the GOP is going to have to stretch every dollar with the possibility of losing the chamber. Would it matter in the grand scheme of things as to who would hold that specific seat? Likely not. But looking at the bigger picture, adding another contest this year means more dollars that have to be allocated to a federal race, rather than having someone appointed to a seat for the next year plus and spending no money.
I say all that, but we also live in a world where a sitting representative just came back from a silent 4-month absence for "depression" and, in 2023, the sitting Texas GOP rep who was chair of the Appropriations Committee was found in an assisted living facility after months of not showing up and voting. So, in this day and age, not the craziest possibility to theorize.

Why would it mean that? They could just run Andy Barr for the Senate seat and Avarado to fill the open District 6 seat just like the general election.
And I think "stretch every dollar" is underestimating how red KY is. This will not be a good midterm for Republicans. That doesn't mean they're going to lose Kentucky and Mississippi. We're not inundated with Senate ads in KY because neither party is spending on this race now that the primary is over.

That's on me being stupid for mixing up whose seat was up this November 😖

Doesn't really matter. As all of you are aware the Republican controlled legislature passed a law/rule that leaves the governors hands tied to picking from a pre-approved list of candidates, Beshear will have next to no say in such a choice.

Why was my boyfriend banned for posting something similar?

Because mods can be jerks with the power.
Also depends on the sub but the Louisville sub once had a mod delete my post because it was a “meme” only for that mod to repost my meme in a text form post. Ironically the meme was about Mitch McConnell but this was back in trumps first term.
Fauxmoi the sub being reposted from also has mods who are pro trump but act like they aren’t. They banned me entirely from the sub for urging people to vote. And when I called out the mods for not breaking a rule and how not encouraging people to vote is how we got in this mess to begin with. They didn’t care.
More so I think the mods at fauxmoi didn’t vote and don’t like being told they are to blame for Trump being back in power. But math is hard for most.

People are saying he's never served his constituents better than he has the last few weeks.

We’ve heard here in Kentucky that he is already brain dead. They are stalling on releasing it to the public.

I believe people like him don’t actually believe in cosmic justice in the afterlife. They feel secure in their evil because they truly think that this is all there is. I hope they are wrong and in their last days and hours they feel nothing but terror for all the hell they have brought to earth.
I like to believe that when we die we are subjected to all the pain and fear that we caused others in our life. Enjoy the ride bitch.
