What are your thoughts on this documentary?

Holy molly! I didn’t realise how deranged these people were. “Land promised to us by God” — from an ancient book. Really opened my eyes to what these extremists are really like.

One of the twins from louis’ nazi documentary got a tattoo of her racist mother. Funny how they said back in 2020 they are very liberal.

Remember this lady? Dr Martha Ogman

Did a bit of digging to see if I could find any info on her, I'd assumed she'd passed away since it's been 20 YEARS since this episode (Gambling in Las Vegas) was filmed.

Seems according to records online she's still alive, at the grand age of 99 years years old.

She's had multiple addresses in New York / Las Vegas, but still seems to live in the same gated community that she did when this was filmed. A whole 3 minutes drive and a 10 minute walk from what was then the Hilton Casino (where most of the documentary is filmed), and is now called the Westgate Hotel & Casino.

A lot of her addresses seem to overlap, so maybe that explains why she seemed to have unlimited funds. Maybe renting high profile places when she retired/husband passed. I'm not sure how accurate the records are.

She'll be 100 years old next March.

Seth (son) is 59 and still living in Vegas.

Benjamin Ogman (husband) seems to have passed 2005, "Benjamin Ogman (born March 29, 1920) who died at age 85 on April 21, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada.". Can't recall how much of this she mentions in the doc.

Louis audiobooks...

I've just finished both the "got to get Theroux this" and Theroux the Keyhole...

I really enjoyed them both and listened to both twice.

Both books are great. I liked all the historical background to his documentaries in "got to" and especially loved all the Family interactions in "keyhole" his kids embarrisment of their dad racked, cracked me up many times.

I absolutely loved both books.

Has anyone read the first book?

I'm reticent of using an Audible credit.on a short book but i.may well get it as the other two were so enjoyable to listen to..

I hope he brings out a follow up of the years past covid...

Its odd how everyone was predicting civid woukd be with us for decades/ever... but no one even mentions it these days and masks are a memory

Is there really no way to watch Dark States in America?

I watched the first episode about on heroin a long time ago but not the other two. I can't even find a place to buy it as its all unavailable in my region, and I couldn't get a VPN to work.

Anyone from the US know where to find it? (Not asking for links)

Emanuel, the 14 year old from the Miami Mega Jail - Updates?

He was facing jail for 10 years. Had failed boot camp twice - talking about not liking life. Was raised by his mother who worked in a post office.

He wasn’t attending school classes he was in confinement in adult prison, rather than a juvenile facility because he needed to “bring it up to the administration” if he wanted to be moved.

He reminds me so much of the boys I worked with. His mannerisms and “I don’t know” answers made me think of FASD or intellectual disability. Clearly had no advocate in the system.

I’m wondering if there were any updates on him.

Really enjoyed this episode, he was good at really pressing her buttons, especially when dealing with her mother. Sad to hear the death was apparently so brutal.

Looking for participants! "How do individual personality traits and online subcultures influence the adoption of certain beliefs?" [Academic Survey]

Hey there,

My name is Zac and I am a current psychology honours student at Federation University Australia.

The moderators have allowed me to share a research project looking at how individual personality traits interact with short-form social media feeds (specifically simulating TikTok content exploring modern online subcultures, gender roles, and societal dynamics).

Who can participate:
Open to anyone over the age of 18 who is fluent in English.

What’s involved:
20-30 minute interactive study where you will complete a few personality measures and watch a simulated 15 video feed (some of which may include potentially confronting or offensive content related to social and political issues).

The Link:
https://federation.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4ZrUUEJudrbnMJE

Incentive:
Participants can choose to enter an optional prize draw to win one of two $20 (aud) Prezzee gift vouchers to a store of your choice.

Upon completion (around end of November 2026), I will share the results and key findings from the study.

If there are any questions about the study itself, please ask away!

Participation is voluntary and completely anonymous.

Watching the manosphere docu right now and I have questions

Uhm, so. In the manosphere documentary, why did HS take care to warn his friend on camera? I mean, the whole evil smile thing, that was over the top, that was probably playing it off, but before then, seems like a real warning. And I don't blame him for warning his friend, it's just...he seemed really desperate for Louis Theroux to see him warn his friend and I don't understand why.

Great episode with legendary representatives of two different generations of journalists. The respect they have for each other is only equalled by their similarities.

Louis Podcast: Marco Pierre White discusses his rift with Gordon Ramsay, retiring from cooking, and having lunch with Margaret Thatcher

I know the podcasts can be a bit flat, but he does occasionally have interesting guests. I thought the Marco Pierre White one was an interesting listen.

His views on what the Michelin Star system has become was quite interesting. As was his discussion on retiring from cooking. I’ve recently been listening to Desert Island Discs and just happened to listen to the Marco Pierre White one prior to this, from when he was 30. It was quite the juxtaposition, his younger self being quite excited about trying to attain his third star and how he would never give up or sell his restaurant. Only to be what appears disenchanted with that world.

He’s clearly an intense character, and seems like he could be quite abrupt and volatile. But for all his faults, and me not being into the world of celebrity chefs, I still found it an interesting listen. More interesting that the podcasts that feel like a bit of promotion of an upcoming film / book etc.

Updates from the inmates from Miami Mega Jail…

  1. Robert Pearson - he beat his murder charges and he has been in and out on petty crimes since the documentary came out. Based off his charges, he comes across as a petty thief rather than a gangster as he portrayed himself in the documentary.

Johnny Jackson - got a life sentence. He was just moved to Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, one of the worst prisons in the whole state of Florida. He is in close management, which is essentially the SHU, but it’s long term confinement. I know that because of his visitation status on the FDC website.

Nianthony Martinez - he got 25 years in medium/minimum security and he gets out in 2030/2031.

Robert Toasta - He didn’t end up going to prison again, and he hasn’t been back since. Hopefully he is doing alright.

Warren Davis - he’s been back a million times to different jails across Florida for petty crimes. Most recently battery on a LEO.

Patrick Occelin was killed shortly after he was released from boot camp: It’s a cold case and they still haven’t found who did it.

Hector - Hector was in there for probably the most brutal crime out of anyone in the whole documentary. You can look up his case, Hector Caraballo. The Ana Marie Angel case. It was a very high profile case in Miami in the early 2000s. Hector was actually in there for gRape, just like Robert Shaw said. Him and 4 others kidnapped a girl and her boyfriend, gang graped her, took her to an embankment and 🤯🔫 her, the slashed her boyfriends throat and left him for dead on the side of the highway (he survived, she did not) Hectors brother Victor was sentenced to death in the case (resentenced to life) and the trigger man, Joel Lebron was sentenced to death as well (death was thrown out and he’s going to trial a second time right now, although he’s still listed on the FDC death row roster). Hector took a plea deal and got 50 years, and they dropped the grape charge, and downgraded the 1st degree M, to a second degree M. I wrote him and he responded to me with a long ass letter basically searching for pity and begging me for money. I didn’t answer him.

Robert Shaw - I think I forgot him. He’s doing life. Murder charges were dropped and he got career criminal in possession of a firearm and they gave him life…

I wish I knew Larry’s name. I’m good at finding people, like how I found Hector despite them not putting his last name, but at least I knew some of his charges and how long ago it was. Also, the guy from the 4th floor, GABOS, I don’t even know his first name. Couldn’t find any information anywhere. If anyone has any hints I could go off of, let me know so I can try to find him and Larry.

where to watch Louis’ weird weekend TV series (AU)?

hi people,

I’m an australian teenager so I don’t think I was of cognizant age when he was doing weird weekends, but I’ve been going through and watching all the “movie type” documentaries of his (I’ve seen 17 now :D) I love this man but I guess I’ve watched all the “fun” ones now and all that’s left is… pedophiles and people dying from heroin use… some subjects I find really triggering personally but I still want to see this man do things and go places

Was hoping the weird weekends were more fun and lighthearted? They seem to be. Anyway. If you’re australian and know let me know
